Things to be excited about: - DarthKane
At home the goal song will be played significantly less...for all the "Chelsea Dagger" haters out there. |

Sarcasm aside, I don’t have high expectations of any of the Hawks D prospects. Boqvist and Mitchell may be at the top of the list, but they haven’t shown much to make us think they can be the cornerstone of the Hawks defense. I don’t think Beaudin will be much more than a depth d-man, at best. They seem to have a solid number of mediocre D prospects, maybe they’ll get lucky and 1-2 actually pan out. - DarthKane

No fans at games means "real fans" don't have to be annoyed when the "so called fans" get up and dance when the goal song gets played...for all the "Chelsea Dagger" haters... |

Can they trade “Dagger” and Cornellison’s “SSB” (and Cornellison) to anyone for “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window”?
I’d even take back a bad contract like “Afternoon Delight” - they can always unload it at the TDL. |

World Series, Game 6:
21 of the first 40 batters have struck out. More than half.
How exciting is that.

Not to defend Keith - he is brutal, I just hate JFRESH and all of their "unique stats" garbage that they peddle as advanced analytics.
Only one defensemen on this list (Petry - 3575) has played more minutes than Keith (3375) over the last two years. Hell, Bietto has only played 1010 minutes.
No factoring in of defense partners, goaltenders, zone starts, etc... Why is a goalie in the same list as defensemen? What's next? Ranking goal scorers by dividing their height by the MPG of thier cars? It's almost as though Tanner created this list. - Tanuki
If you'd read his follow-up tweets (which were like a minute or two later), he clearly points out that he was just interested in the number but that it definitely has zero context and it's not meant to be more than that. Stats without context are my biggest pet peeve but even I took the time to read past the irritation of the initial tweet.
Here are his comments just to make it easy for you:
"Giveaways" are measured subjectively from arena to arena and are maybe some of the least precise/consistent stats. This is not a scientific measure. Absolutely by no means should you take this as an airtight description. Everything about this is arbitrary. There's no adjustment for literally anything, including arena/puck carrying frequency/goaltending.
This shouldn't be taken as a measure of defensive ability, it's just a curiosity.
Stats/numbers are objective, but they are not useful alone (or at all in some cases) and the analysis of those stats can definitely be subjective and inaccurate. Tanner is a joke but that doesn't mean everyone who looks at stats are. I hate that that guy is y'all's major reference lol. But many stats are valuable if looked at with many other variables, in context of the game, etc.
Someone going "oh, I always wondered about this" and then figuring out quickly "but this isn't actually useful by itself" is half of what analytics is - it's how they figure out how to build more context into the analysis. It could lead to new questions, just like you asked.
For example... Are these numbers because that player is too heavily relied on for zone exits or his deployment DZ skewed? Is he often targeted on zone exits? Is it because his partner and/or the forwards aren't often in position to assist a zone exit? Is it a systematic issue with the zone exits for a team? These questions could then lead to more interesting, useful evaluation of player or the team as a whole. Or it might not tell anything by the end and will be discarded. Again, it's a part of how to refine analytics to find what actually helps with understanding performance.
But either way, being dismissive of any "unique stats" as garbage just because some don't tell you anything by themselves is kind of silly. Be skeptical for sure (I love stats yet I don't take other interpretations at face value without checking myself) but there is no need to use hyperbole to try to discredit anything. Believe me, useless stats and bad analysts (like Tanner) will discredit themselves without any outside help lol.
PS. Just a small note: a goalie was in the list because goalies handle the puck in the DZ and it was based on that, not position. |

Yes - in small doses, Tim Conway is very funny.
But no one ever funnier than Hackett. |

How does the Mgr take Snell out after one single? I was pulling for the Rays but did a 180 right there.
Are they gonna pot shot that manager or what? |

Many 1st rounders from the 2020 draft are getting inked to ELCs. Lapierre is the latest today by the Caps. Wonder if the Hawks will get Reichel signed to an ELC this summer or defer?
My preference would be to wait to spread out when ELCs expire across all prospects in the system.
That may have been a factor for Mitchell not playing in the bubble this past postseason. Not the exact reason by weighed in decision making. - Theo Fox
I thought the league decided players signed like Mitchell would not be eligible for the bubble? I think guys are inking ELC's because they are going to be carried with the big club due to reduced minor league schedules. I really don't know how the AHL and ECHL can play without fans? $0 Revenue? |

Even I the ultimate realist will admit it is too soon to tell. You're talking about kids weighing 125 pounds coming out of Pee Wee league in their infancies as pros...

On Murphy and deHaan, didn’t mean they would garner a big return, but could definitely see Murphy returning a 1st at the TDL if that’s the way they wanted to go.
As has been posted here quite a bit, maybe other than Keith I see the other three playing out there contracts here. - HawkintheD
Not criticizing you at all. My opinion may be unpopular on here. My spidey senses are feeling a not so genuine response by mgmt on this whole rebuild presentation to the fans. My take is they've been trying to find a way to move 7 for quite some time and him not playing gives me that impression. We can believe or not believe the surgeries and injury angle. I'm sure he did have surgeries but I suspect they could be using this as a way out of his deal. How they do it or the legal ramifications I have no idea of. 2 can be moved and I believe he'll eventually agree. That leaves 19 and or 88 as the way to speed up a real rebuild. They can say they're staying hawks for 3yrs but I don't buy it. They're the meal tickets for meaningful returns in trades. Otherwise we'll kinda flounder around for a few yrs and gradually rebuild from the draft. If they all stay I'll eat crow but I'm confident at least 2 will be gone within a yr. Just my take, I'm not calling anyone else's opinion incorrect and I understand the sentiment of our fans wanting them here. |
