Bill, is there a reason why Zamula has not been loaned to the KHL? It would seem like he could really benefit from the ice time.

Wait a second. The Belarusians got Covid? I thought their president stated Belarus would be immune and protected by it’s citizens performing hard labor, vigilant prayer, and imbibing vodka

There is an interesting little gender correlation between good Covid results and gender, especially flamboyant assertions of gender.

Best managed:
Taiwan - female leader
New Zealand - female leader
Germany - female leader
Finland - female leader

and a few others

https://www.forbes.com/si...men-leaders/#32981f8d3dec

Among the worst managed:

US - flamboyantly male leader
India - moderately flamboyant male leader
Russia - flamboyantly male leader
Brazil - flamboyantly male leader
Philippines (rates are lower now because they have sharply restricted testing): ultra-flamboyantly male leader.
UK - moderately flamboyant male leader

And of course Belarussia, which is a caricature of a dictatorship circa 19th century. In that case, not flamboyant but ultra patrician male leader.

Passing on Jagr with Ricci is on one side one of the biggest draft blunders ever. Even then it was quite obvious how talented Jagr was. Either scouting team or owner's politics/involvement are to blame here.

Now on other side, I am not sure I could survive a Lindros trade including Jagr and Forsberg. That would be the most embarrassing and lopsided trade ever :-D

out of curiosity...what's stupid about this? That men who are concerned about adhering to masculinity norms might be more likely to take a risky approach to dealing with COVID or that gender effects good decision making in general? You might want to ask your wife to help you answer this.

To extrapolate on what you wrote, there is a more general point here. You will often find people complaining about the sissification of society, the excessive caution and so on. These people are almost always men.

Men are evolutionarily programmed for favoring bold action. This comes from a time when such attributes were necessary for the survival of the species. Now in society, they largely manifest themselves in sports (good) or violent crime (bad). The people who make more money or live longer are no longer the flamboyant alpha- male dude. They are the engineer type and their imitations: prudent and logical

Men are also represented more heavily in the tail end of most fields. But this disguises the fact that women go to college at higher rates, and do better there on average. They live longer, have better health outcomes and in general report higher levels of happiness.

It is food for thought whether modernity and the kind of life it means is more correlated with feminine norms and much of what we are seeing in the world today, which we call populism, is actually a masculine backlash, and the reason for guys like Trump/Putin/Balsonaro etc flaunting their manhood is part of it.

Ricci's career should be judged on its own merits, and not for the fact that Russ Farwell drafted him rather than Jaromir Jagr (per The Hockey News' 1990 Draft Preview, the Flyers were Jagr's likeliest destination in the Draft had Bob Clarke, who called him the top talent in the Draft after seeing Jagr at the 1990 World Juniors, not been fired after the 1989-90 season)
- Bill Meltzer

Bill - do you think there was at least a little "the fired guy wanted him so there's no way I'm going to pick him" going on there?

Are you stating that CoVid management decisions were made solely by the leaders mentioned?
Also what about Brunei, Cambodia, Haiti, Laos, Niger, Thailand etc?

With all due respect to Quebec, Vancouver, Detroit & Philadelphia, even with concerns about him coming over to North America it’s a huge miss in draft folklore.

All that said, Owen Nolan had a pretty darn good career and almost 20 teams passing on Keith Tkachuk and Martin Brodeur (Vancouver twice) can be added to the huge misses that happen every so often in the NHL drafts.

That is statistical malpractice. The only thing I could agree with is "correlation" as no causation has been established. There is also a positive correlation between number of shark bites and amount of ice cream sold. Should we stop selling ice cream?

Who ever said that is an idiot. We know Trump didn't say it. And by WE I mean you and me, otherwise you are making it up or just never bothered to find out what he said on your own instead relying on the media who think you are an idiot and will never fact check anything they say.

Rant over.

Do you know what the word correlation means? It occurs in my original post. It does not mean there is a 1:1 relationship.

No punches thrown- just questions. There is no testosterone overload- just and intellectual argument.
