In our history we’ve rarely drafted at the very top of the draft, thus the lack of buzz around a Flyer prospect. - Dave21Brown
I'm talking about buzz on the ice. As an example I remember being at a game in Lindros rookie season when he came back from a knee injury against Chicago. When he came out of tunnel for warm ups the crowd lit up! He was electric on the ice. With or without the puck. In the offensive end, he was knocked down from behind by a player. He got up and beelined for the player. The entire crowd reacted and knew what was coming. It was unbelievable.

Ahh, gotcha. I don’t think you’ll ever see another player like him in that respect. Now skilled guys like McDavid and MacKinnon will bring you out of your seat with their talent but they won’t drop the gloves and punch someone in the mouth while scoring a hat trick.

Just a special player. Too bad he didn't learn to skate with his head up or that he couldn't run through everyone without it taking a toll on his body. Not to mention the other nonsense that went on.

imagine if he was protected from head shots like all are today, he career would have been out of control good.

This just reminded of a game I was at against Boston in 98. The Bruins had been chipping Lindros the whole game. And then Tim Taylor got his stick up and Lindros had enough.

Poor Taylor.

Great stuff. I don't think we'll ever see another player like Lindros again.
BTW... that clip reminds me how much I hated Kevin Collins refereeing Flyers games. He was such a female genitalia. Always spoiled a good fight.

Exactly correct. He may have gone 18 to 20 years with no one giving him head shots like Stevens. Lindros playing in today's game may not have been fair to the other players.
It's been a long time since there was a buzz on the ice with a player. As really good as Giroux has been, it's not close. - MJL
There has been some buzz recently. The Carter Hart debut was special. Listening to the crowd, they cheered every slow rolling pad stop like it was gold! Everyone should rightly be excited.

Even LeClair would have a bigger advantage against today's NHL defenseman. Impossible to stop around the net.

Excited to be sure but not close to the same buzz. There was literally a buzz when he had the puck or did something.

You're right. Now the D can't just push the F out of the way for no reason like they used to get away with. And LeClair was a problem for the D back then under those lax rules. All the cross checks to the back gave him back problems. I listened to his interview on Spittin Chiclets which was actually pretty good.

it's almost like the Flyers on the ice got behind Lindros and just drafted behind him, it was a surge, a wave. I would have hated to see that coming at me

The only ones who came close were Macleish in the mid 70s, especially during the playoffs, Reggie Leach during the 76 playoffs when he seemed to score every time he touched the puck, Primeau at times during the 04 playoffs and Foppa during the first couple of months of the 05-06 season.
But no one, absolutely no one, did it night in and night out like #88 in his prime. For a short time he electrified fans the way Orr and Mario did in their primes. There has never been a combo of pure skill, power and ferocity like Eric Lindros during those peak years.
If only he had ever learned to skate with his head up, but it’s hard to blame him as at every level, he was just so much bigger and stronger than everyone else that it just didn’t matter.
