Not in the slightest. I just find it funny that now that they are not Canucks, they are crappy players. Most people in here had them ranked based on importance of re-signing. - Marwood

Alternatively, Calgary fans now think highly of Markstrom, Tanev, etc, now that they've been signed by them.
funny how that works

So, now Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli & Leivo are "crappy players".
He's taking a lot of heat for maxing out his cap on crappy bottom 6 players who are good in the room. - Marwood
No, that's not what I meant (or said they were all crappy, but thanks for spinning it that way), they're anywhere from replacement to great players.
I think most people here agree the one person that he was held back on was Toffoli, and that's as he knew the Schmidt deal was happening.
He wasn't going to – and shouldn't have – match Marky and Tanev. Stetch is a replaceable player. Leivo, as much as I wanted him, is a replaceable player that actively chose to play in Calgary over Van when offered the same contract. Now people are questioning why JB didn't give Fatty a contract.... as if the cap was holding them back, as well as every other GM in the NHL. |

That fact that JB didn't foresee the global pandemic, economic recession and flat cap blows my mind.
Poor planning really.
We need to hire a real capologist.

No one expected him to predict the pandemic, the criticism is that he signed a bunch of poopty players to bad contracts.

I don't see QH or Petey, let alone the Canucks, wanting to sign long term deals in the middle of the flat cap era. I expect it will be two three year bridge deals in the $5.5 - $7M dollar range.
Petey has rights but QH doesn't (no arb or offer sheet rights) - team shouldn't grind him too much and cause bad blood but regardless the third year salary will be nice and high so they each have big qualifying offers due at the end. |

Signing players to terms where they are eventually bought out is common practice.
The pandemic has obviously impacted on this.

No, having to buy out a player is poor management. If anything covid has made it an acceptable in the short term. |

You think Hoglander has a higher upside that Podz?
Bold.
I like it.
My gut disagrees, but i like it. - dbot
I think both have similar upside, to be good middle 6 wingers who drive possession with a decent mix of speed/strength/skill. |

Protect:

Virtanen
Gaudette
Motte
Schmidt
Myers
Juolevi
Demko
That leave Zack Mac, Rousell and Holtby as exposed. |

I think the Canucks will have an opportunity to trade for some better forwards and Defenseman than Gaudette, Motte and Juolevi. Teams with an abundance of depth would probably take anything rather than lose them for nothing.

Yes good point, we are in a great position to potentially steal better depth prior to the draft. Helps that Hughes and Rathbone are exempt |

For sure.
I see the logic in poaching a Dman from another club and exposing Myers.
I actually like Myers myself and think it'd be 50/50 if Seattle would take him.
