8 teams are currently over the cap, and the Hawks have over $5M in cap space with only Strome to sign (or not). Bowman talked to Powers and Lazarus about taking advantage of a team that needs cap space. Does anyone think he'll do anything before the season? Who should he target as far as prospects are concerned? What shold he give up? Is there a way that he could get rid of Smith's contract to a team who could use the LTIR relief? If he got rid of Smith, he could take an even bigger contract back, which should result in even better picks/prospects.
Trade Strome's rights and Smith for...? |

I would be interested to see how Vlasic shows. I'm hoping that he has progressed and improved on his deficiencies. I'd be happy with a slightly better Tyler Myers. - Chunk
Agree on Vlasic. A stage like the WJC is an opportunity to prove he can excel in the role of a shutdown defender.
Vlasic wasn't drafted to play the same role as Boqvist, Beaudin, or Mitchell. Instead, he needs to be a defensive defenseman who skates well and transitions the puck.
I can imagine his invite to Team USA's camp has this in mind, too, as far as the role he would be expected to play given the other D invites. |

I know it won’t be on for a while, but is there normally a good way to watch it? Is it televised all over? |

Honestly, I just don't see it happening. Bad contracts for picks/prospects hasn't been what Bowman does. A good portion of those teams over are just barely & there are more teams than the hawks with a lot more space. I don't think Bowman makes any more moves as far as trades. Idk what is going on with Strome. Smith's contract isn't hurting them. |

Sup Bread. Everything stated and written so far points to Strome’s signing being a formality. There simply is no rush to get it done. |

Guessing on TSN for sure but that's not a channel carried in the U.S. on cable packages at least most of the country. Perhaps in northern most states.
I don't watch ESPN anymore but maybe they carry some of the games? In the past I recall seeing WJC games while eating at restaurants that play live games like Chilis and BW3s. |

Bad contracts for picks is something rebuilding teams do. Until Mcd was let go, they would never admit to rebuilding. |

Sup, Truffle Shuffle. Wonder if Strome is thinking about different numbers ... |

There is more than 1 way to skin a cat. I personally don't see Bowman doing it. None of those teams are way over the cap, so if they feel like they are getting fleeced, hang up & try a different team. |

I'm not saying Bowman would fleece them. Strome is a useful player, but I think he's not a great fit for the Hawks. The Hawks would be trading a good player, and getting multiple pieces that they could use in the next 2 to 3 years. Both teams benefit. That's the kind of trade that I think Bowman prefers. |

I wasn't trying to say you implied it or anything, just tossing an example. Ehh, I'm not too sure. I've been learning that the market value return for players is never what I expect, but that's because I'm biased. I'm not sure if Strome can garner a good return. |

NHLN usually carries the TSN feeds during the WJC. |

I think they’ll be on NHLNetwork - isn’t that who had them in the past? They won’t have any other live hockey programming.

Bowman I am pretty sure has been told to cut cost. |
