Who said I’m bent out of shape? I said, I don’t believe they’re taking this season seriously. Part of that belief, is in the signing of Johnson, when there were other more capable at the same money and term. JD is doing Johnson a favor by letting him try to reconstruct his career. A noble gesture, and I hope it works out for him. - OLDSCHOOL#6
Sorry didn't mean to imply that you in particular were bent out of shape, but many Rangers fans seem to be. I think when you look at the Kreider contract, the Panarin deal last summer, moving on from Hank to make more room for Shesterkin/Georgy, etc., that shows a lot more with regards to the direction of the team and how seriously they are taking winning than a signing cheap defenseman for one year does. I also don't think that this was a charity signing. I think they believe that he will be able to help them to some degree, most likely moreso off the ice than on. I guess we will see. |

and just getting back to Kulikov for a second, the Rangers also signed Anthony Bitetto
you really think Kulikov is that much better than Bitetto at this point? |

Kulikov is definitely an NHL player, I don't think you can really say the same for Bitetto |

Last season Strome made $3.1 mill in the last year of his contract. If the Rangers offered him $4.35 mill on a one year deal, that would represent a 40% raise. That amount may not thrill Strome but its not bad considering the state of the league and the world economy.
I now believe this will get settled in the next week or so. Once it does, Lemieux will get completed within a couple of hours.
The only thing that prevents this from getting done is if the Rangers quietly have something planned with Tampa. I still maintain that the Lightning are currently holding up a lot of deals. We shall see soon enough.... |

the 2013 NHL season started January 19th, 48 games then had normal playoff
I actually liked that season, personally Id be fine if that's pretty much what the NHL does again |

How bout this hypothetical? Offer sheet Barzal for 8mil. Islanders are up against it with a lot of long term contracts. Force them to pay that or lose Barzal. If the offer sheet works, they can package Strome and Buch away. Don't attack me just having fun! |

Fewer players, Canada/US travel difference, ice rink vs. wood floors
Details are just more complicated for the NHL |

Rangers can't offer sheet anyone $8 mill because they don't have required 2nd round pick in 2021, it was traded in Staal deal. |

I think in some ways it could be more complicated for the NBA. The NHL has the option to have a Canadian division since there are 7 Canadian teams. NBA doesn't have that option since Toronto is the only team up north. I wonder what their solution will be. The Blue Jays played their season in Buffalo this summer, it's possible that the Raptors will do the same but I'd imagine it'd be a tough sell. Agreed that it would be easier with fewer players but I don't get the ice rink vs wood floors part |

Good point, but a second rounder shouldn't be hard to acquire.

I think there’s a lot more flexibility for a basketball court than an ice rink. All the NBA needs is a ballroom or open space to create courts. The NHL is going to need to figure out their season around rinks. Not so flexible.
Edit: It’s a stretch, but humor me |

I do believe when it comes to offer-sheeting that the picks need to all be owned by the team and can’t be substituted. |

yes, the Rangers need to own their own second round pick to sign someone to an offer sheet
and no, a 2nd round pick is actually not that easy to acquire |

You never know. If we can somehow get a second from a team that's gonna finish below us, Steve Y may want to swap picks for a low level prospect |
