On the defensive side, I would have liked to see Jim upgrade in Stecher with Tanev, and upgrade on Tanev with Schmidt. They could have had Tanev do for Joulevi what he’s done for Hughes. Anyway, it is what it is, two more years. - 1970vintage
No money to keep Tanny and add Schmidt....

Wrong again, thankfully.
Team will surprise many again. Short season, which is in their favour with the young stars. I expect at least two support level young players will make a significant impact this upcoming season.
Next offseason, bridge deals will get done for EP/QH/TD and Benning will fill some needs in the lineup after getting a season to audition his older prospects. Team is well positioned to build a contending team as vet contracts drop off and young guys/Benning additions replace them. - CoolerHeads
I’d say they played exactly as well as most people expected during the regular season, and were surprisingly successful in the thingy.
This bolder part I particularly like. Are you suggesting that Benning will make the team better by replacing a bunch of grizzled old leftover Gillis contracts expire and super terrific Benning contracts take over? |
|
|
|
Fair enough.
Im genuinely curious where the line gets drawn in terms of who are good people and bad here.
Barstool Bad
Biz and white support barstool therefore they are bad
Petey and Bo have supported Biz and whit so they should also be bad (or can wr make excuses for them cause we like them)
Genuinely curious vause could Petey have not just gone on a hockey show with 2 goofs and had a chat for 15 mins and leave it at that? Not defending either way I just find it very interesting the different povs of people - Jkuzzi
I thought the interview was really good. I also think it was GOOD of EP40 to go on. It gave a glimps of a new culture in hockey. The interviewers are 'old school' but they didn't even bring any of their regular stuff / questions.
To me, it showed EP40 and other young players are different, and these older guys get that. If EP40 doesn't go on....the circle continues of them bringing in old party stories with their bros.
i thought they showed a lot of respect to EP / it was pretty good. EP just wants to talk fasion and vids, not chasing around girls.

They’ll be another bubble team if the goaltending can be 85% of what it was last season, if not, they regress slightly. Unless coach Green can somehow get the team to play better defensively? Huge if!! |

Yes, this IS the case, but it didn’t have to be. I freaking love the Schmidt deal. That’s the kind of shrewd GM’ing I hoped Benning would be known for. |

Yeah, I dunno. Still a lot that can happen between now and Feb(?). I think the goaltending just got worse, the D is maybe a push and the (young) F could be slightly more productive being another year older. |

Well....the J.T. Miller deal turned out to be good and the Schmidt deal I assume will be good, that’s two good ones in seven years |

The reality is we're capped out like several other teams. The hand is dealt with JB's UFA signings. People think our D is better than it was. I'm going with the team will regress next season. |

I draw the line at homophobic and racist comments. Though I don't think talking about the amount of women(or men) you have slept with, one shouldn't demean them, especially over the air. |

Miller has been a great addition, and in a vacuum it’s a good trade. Given the situation, I would have liked to see Benning take advantage more. End of the day, happy Miller is a Canuck. |

Demko not Marky got into the VGK heads and took their mojo. So what's preventing him from being better next season? His time is now and he's got Holtby as a solid vet safety net. Goaltending looks pretty good not grim.
Agree that another move or 2 can be had by JB by season start. Though timing will dictate that based on Ferland/LE cap. They can waive everyone and run with a lean roster. But it doesn't create more then couple million not enough to bring in a Cernak or Hoffman to be a top upgrade. Why Ferland/LE need to be the big push to go in the era of flat cap no cap dump trades of bottom players. |

Paraphrase is what he did.
Exact quote was "I think the goaltending just got worse".
Seems kinda like grim.

Top 4 D are hard to find yet some fans think the only way for this team to get better is to magically do something that like 26 other teams are trying to do and get 4 of them and still fit under the cap or not have huge holes in the forward group.
Stecher was a good 3rd pairing option. Held his own vs slightly tougher competition. You probably aren't going to find an actual upgrade on his play without paying more. Finding a player that is comparable in play but with different attributes. |

Wasn't that always the plan. Players were signed to guide the youth as they came and as more of the youth came in ready to play that a vet would be pushed out.
It's happened a few times now, it should be happening a bit more in time as a few more players will become more ready. Unfortunately, not all contracts of a vet will end exactly when a younger player is ready. |

If you are going to please every single person now a days, you might as well sit at home and do absolutely nothing but that will still piss people off.
Unless someone is spouting off daily on the program about an issue that is clearly a problem or even once a month trying to push an issue that has nothing to do with their program or anything.
If the two of them want to stick to talking about hockey on their program, not going to care. |
