Jack Quinn did not crack the Canada roster in Scott Wheelers projected roster.
Ironically enough though 4 guys drafted after Quinn made the projected roster.

The good:
"Among all Liiga goalies to appear in at least five games, Luukkonen’s 92.06 save percentage ranked fourth entering Monday. The 21-year-old also has a 2.5 goals-against average and played back-to-back games over the weekend, stopping 65 of 70 shots"
The bad:
"Marcus Davidsson’s development track took another significant turn Tuesday.
Davidsson, the Buffalo Sabres’ second-round draft pick in 2017, is leaving the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Hockey League after the two sides agreed to terminate the 21-year-old center’s contract. According to Expressen, a news outlet in Sweden, Davidsson is expected to join Vasetervik of Hockeyallsvenskan, the country's second-tier professional league.
Davidsson had not appeared in a game for Vaxjo since Oct. 22, when he logged a season-high 9:25 against Malmo. He has routinely been Vaxjo’s extra forward since missing the start of the season while recovering from offseason surgery. Davidsson had one assist while appearing in six games this season"

No, no, no. Not at all.
I’m starting this era as pessimistic as possible. The opposite I started the last two.
I’m more relaxed than ever. That way when the inevitable happens in 2 1/2 years or less I have nothing to defend on here |

Take a bowie knife and jam it through his jugular, he's a failure as an NHL prospect.

Imagine he makes it and then everyone forgets that he 'should have' been taken before the other guy but definitely ignore the top half of the lineup is filled with either top 2 picks or last year's draft class in a year where all those guys are allowed to return because the NHL won't have started yet and then get really (frank)ing butthurt that Quinn's D+0 year insinuates that he won't be any good, somehow.

What I see above is a few prospects taken ahead of Quinn, which tells me this MF'er better be good otherwise it will have been just as big of a reach as people thought it was.
Hell, the Sabres tried to trade to 11 and take Quinn anyways. They knew they reached

I don’t think Dahlin will have a problem hitting his bonuses this year. He’s ready to breakout as long as Kreuger doesn’t hold him back - Pegullaville
It's not as simple as it sounds. Dahlin has max bonuses in his deal. 850k as are type A. 2m are type B. Most picks don't get type B. Cozens doesn't get type B at all. They are league-wide and much more difficult to hit.
I don't know what his specific bonuses are (I think we've heard 1 is top 10 points per game), but he may very well need to win an award or make the post-season all star team to cash in on all of them.
Type A for a defenseman:
-Top 4 in TOI for defenders on team (min. 42 games)*
-10 goals (min.)**
-25 assists (min.)**
-40 point (min.)**
-0.49 points per game (min. 42 games)
-Top 3 defenders in +/- on team (min. 42 games)
-Top 2 defenders in blocked shots on team (min. 42 games)
-Makes end of season All-Star Rookie Team
-Selected or play in NHL All-Star Game
-NHL All-Star Game MVP
Type B:
Winning a select trophy or award: Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke, Richard, Lady Byng, Jennings, or Calder
Named to the first or second All-Star Team (end of season All-Star team)
Forwards: top 10 in goals, assists, points, points per game for forwards
Defensemen: top 10 in goals, assists, points, points per game for defensemen
Goalies: top five in GAA (25 game min.), SV% (25 game min.), wins (30 game min.)

I think he should be in the mix for the 4th line or extra forward. I also understand why he would not crack that roster at all.

I can't disagree their draft approach as a whole was a little.. I don't know.. lacking in experience? But if you like a guy, you take him. It's not like he had a 2nd round grade and they took him at 10. Maybe they reached by 2-3 spots. Imagine if the Islanders picked Pastrnak instead of Dal Colle. They'd get crucified for it. I think he's only considered a reach because of his one year of elite performance. And I also think they like him for more than just his base line stats. He's a grinder and a competitor and he's resilient. I'm a huge fan of the kid and I know he's gonna do great things in this league. I don't give a poop if he doesn't make the U20 as an underager. He may, he may not. But he's going to force Team Canada to make a hard decision. |

However I think Rossi is going to be overall one of the better players in hockey someday |

He's going to force that team to make a difficult decision. That I'm sure of. The kid can score. You don't leave those guys off. Second in the OHL in goal scoring, first in draft eligible.

My bet, and this is something that I believe Adymysysys alluded to prior to the draft, is that they were looking for guys who would become great players, analytically. Who's going to fit in, who's going to develop etc. Even if it takes several years to get there.
Botterill teams looked at very safe players, not always with the ceiling. I think Kyvyn chose higher ceiling guys. And I believe Quinn highlights that.
Now as far as who will be better when they're 26? poop, maybe it will be Quinn. Or maybe not. As long as he's a great player, I really couldn't care less. But if it's the difference between Pettersson and Mittelstadt. Welp. (frank). |

I think they liked his floor tbh. There’s little chance Quinn is a total bust. He will score goals. That’s just what he does.
