I think they liked his floor tbh. There’s little chance Quinn is a total bust. He will score goals. That’s just what he does.
It was just a reach at 8 - sbroads24
Also RW. I think that was the biggest reason.

He filled a need as we had a lack of right handed shots in the pipeline who can play the wing.
They must have thought that Rossi would end up on the wing in the NHL level and with Skinner and Olofsson in the organization they must have felt comfortable there.
They drafted for need and not BPA imo.
I will be more then happy to be proven wrong though and Quinn end up being the better player. |

Can't be just be a good player? Why does he have to be the better player?

What I see above is a few prospects taken ahead of Quinn, which tells me this MF'er better be good otherwise it will have been just as big of a reach as people thought it was.
Hell, the Sabres tried to trade to 11 and take Quinn anyways. They knew they reached

Could quinn plays a similar style to some of the older prospects? Maybe they have too many luke jack quinn types?

I just don't see how a team that hasn't seen a playoff game in a decade can do this.
Is there any position that we are solid on? With Staal and Hall gone at year's end most likely, we have 1 legit center, two left wings, one right, plus Cozens if he pans out. We're so devoid of talent in the pipeline, the "draft for need" idea seems silly, no? |

I mean it would be nice to select the best player available when you obtain a top 10 pick.
If you go back 10 years and have the Sabres select the best player available at each spot we’d have a much different hockey club and probably would have had a much more successful past decade.
Bo Horvat over Ristolainen would have reduced the need to move all of the assets to acquire ROR.
Sergachev over Joker would have been nice.
Draisatil over Reinhart would have been nice.
2 of Hertl, Wilson, Teravinen would have been nice instead of Grigorenko and Girgensons.

Just a prediction:
Flacco complains about the rossi/ quinn pick 5 times a day for the next 3 years.
Quinn becomes the better nhl player
Flacco says "I've never seen a guy improve that much overnight"
This protects Flacco from 3 years of wrong posts, by implying the player JUST improved. He covers both ends and chalks it up to being right all along and nobody saw this as a last second improvement.

I mean if myself can use only video scouting and know that Draisatil and Sergachev should have been our picks in those respective years what do we pay scouts hundreds of thousands of dollars to do ? |

My understanding is the pegulas went to jbotts with similar concerns. Asked him to cut back his scouts ect. Especially overseas guys. He said "no". They said goodbye.
Not %1000skinner sure , but it think it revolved around the internal (employee/scout) cutbacks, not the fake 70 million $ player internal cap , respect the yacht rumor. |

Right.
At the time we drafted Risto we needed a right handed shot badly.
Draistal was considered the biggest “what if” in that draft. Sam was considered the best forward in the draft.

Drew Lock has been the worst QB in the NFL this year apart from that 4th quarter against the Chargers.
Hopefully he can build on that quarter.
It’s a shame really cause Fangio has them playing really good defence and the Lindsay/Gordon tandem has been good on the ground.
You don’t need to have a top 5-10 QB play to win in the NFL but you can’t have bottom 5 QB play either. |

Kevin Devine nearly had a stroke when the Preds walked up to take Seth Jones at 4 because they had their Finnish scout on stage and thought they were going to take Risto.
Drafting takes a lot of luck, no doubt. However the Sabres haven’t drafted well pretty much ever.
There are teams that use analytics in regards to their picks, and perhaps just have better eyes for talent. You’re not going to draft the right player every time but Jesus they shouldn’t have been as bad as they were for the most part from 2010-2020 |

Any bills rumors out there. It’s trade deadline day. I know the nfl is normally pretty quiet. But bean should do something!!! At minimum shore up the d line, maybe a LB... |

I saw someone ask earlier if dahlin would've been drafted over eichel if they were in the same draft class..... someone else said no. dont remember who it was. doesnt matter.
when the best defensive prospect questionably ever is on the board I have a hard time believing the 2nd best forward on the board would go before him. I would question if he would've gone 1oa before McDavid before I'd question him going before eichel. just an opinion. |

I believe that Eichel would have gone first overall in any other draft that decade. That was my
Reasoning for taking him over Dahlin.
I wouldn’t fault anyone for thinking otherwise though |

If Draistal was NA would there have been so many questions? Would Sam have been the best forward? If Sam Reinhart didn't have the family pedigree would he have been rated where he was? My question is based on talent alone was Sam the best?

Max was the 64th pick in 2010
Griffin was the 4th in 2012.
Griffin didn’t even start in the AHL until 2014. |
