Many fans want to see Loui Eriksson sent to the AHL, but don’t count on it happening. In fact, don’t even be surprised if he sees minutes here and there in the #Canucks top-six.

Why? It comes down to real cash and a lack a depth:

- VanHockeyGuy

No it comes down to escrow. Harman is right. We are (frank)ed and Loui isn’t going anywhere. (frank) you Aquilini

Dayal is ignoring what JB said about waiving vets. Sven and LE gets them cap compliant as things stand. Doubt they wave ZacMac over LE.

Sunshine causes skin cancer and roses have thorns. Your points are as thwarted as your dreams of trading LE to cap floor Sens.

Read the article. Waiving Loui will cost Aquilini over $700k in Extra cash due to escrow. I doubt he is going anywhere

JB also said he's going to focus on retaining all his UFA's

You just can't bring yourself to say one negative thing about JB can you?

IMO it was an overpayment, but we did okay in the playoff's. As the team stands today I think we take a step back this season and rebound the year after.
- VanHockeyGuy

Given the likely scenario of a Canadian division & a covid schedule I expect steps back & forward. How it washes out is the hard guess.

If it was just about saving $ they could have bought out Sutter. That piddling amount is nothing when they are eating Sven's contract.

Exactly, a timely lucky move or 2 could change that, but unlikely given the circumstances.

Yeah, really tough to say one way or another until you know what the league has planned. I think the club is slightly better on paper. But a lot hinges on how our goaltending and depth plays out with a heavily condensed schedule.

The best thing that could happen to Lui would be being sent down. He would receive his full salary, instead of the reduced NHL amount. The worst thing that could happen for the Canucks is that they send him down and he suffers an injury. Getting paid, and counting $5m against the cap.

lol I'm in the middle being realistic and reasonable. Don't lump me into a for and against stance. You're right he said that about UFA's. NOT a 3D chess move to have signed depth players in advance to hamper him not to overpay UFA's now.

Given cap realities he couldn't outbid and was offering shorter term. His over pay on previous fill in contracts, not to be repeated on the latest UFA's, when seeing the rise of the prospects and young core.

Wtf does electing to send Loui down and pay more $ have to do with Baertchi? One is a choice, the other is not 🤦🏻‍♂️

Are you referring to long term injury and is there a rule against calling up (yes on demoting) said injured player?

By the way LE's salary is only $1M. Wonder how much and long he'd like to suffer in Utica for that?

Same thing its paying more money which by that action seems they aren't afraid to do in improving the team.

You cannot reassign an injured player. So if they send Lui to NY and he gets hurt playing they don’t get to put the just <$5m cap hit on LTIR, they’re stuck with it.

The team would be much better off with Gillis running the show. He would make sure Baertschi and Eriksson got hurt during training camp and couldn’t play the whole season.

Just to remind everyone that this is a joke...

It costs 785k more to waive LE to Utica cuz no escrow in the AHL. Cap hit still goes down.
- Nighthawk

Yes. So what's the issue? Players without roles waived to be complaint is an easy move.
