I don't totally get the Murray signing. He had a worse save % than Anderson last season. Why not hang onto Anderson for cheap and take on a bad contract or two? They overpaid a declining goalie.

Dadonov was a smart signing. Get a top line guy who can score so the pressure's not on the younger guys. Good term/amount for sure.

Galchenyuk will probably still be a sen after the TDL. Perennial underachiever, but this was obviously a no risk signing by Dorion.

Murray had an off year, but i can't imagine that a 26 year old goalie who had 4-5 great years, and then one single bad one, is a "declining goalie". i'd say more like a good goalie who had a bad year. even the greats have bad years.....3 seasons ago Price had a worse year than Murray did....Rinne threw up a pretty wicked stinker in 13/14 and was a venina finalist the following year. Murray obviously isn't going to rock vezina numbers this year as ottawa is still a pretty bad/young team, but as long as he doens't regress, i won't be concerned

Anderson is not an NHL calibre goalie anymore, there's a reason that nobody even offered him a league min deal.

They did some real good things. Tough to go wrong in the draft.

Murray is a large gamble for a budget team. He has not been good for a couple years now and is oft-injured. I think he was a good guy to take a chance on, but I would have liked to see him on a show-me contract before getting the money and term her got.

If this happened any other year, it would have been a decent move. However, with the signings of so many UFA goalies at cheaper prices and with less term, it's hard to understand why Ott gave up so much. I am not sold on Murray as a starter.

did they really give up that much?

the 52nd overall pick and the coach of the Raiders?

this.

murray was, IMO, the best goalie available this offseason (after Lehner signed in vegas) i'm happy with what ottawa gave up.....contract may have been a bit longer than i liked, but he's only 26

I'd argue that Markstrom was the top UFA goalie, and his numbers sure back that up. Holtby and Crawford had better numbers then Murray as well. Granted their years are numbered, but each received 2 year deals at very reasonable rates, while not costing picks.

I am just reluctant to give any term to goalies in this era of the NHL. Those knees take serious abuse from east-west butterfly goalies. Gone are the days of standup goalies taking 80mph clappers (I know big Al could blast it but most guys couldn't). I hope Murray is worth every penny, and its a far-cry from Bobrovsky's scary contract. That being said, he was terrible last year, and yes, this appeared to me as too much term, and too much $$$.
