Its my opinion. As you should know by now, I'm not big on group think which is what I feel when I compare the cliché type reports vs what I see on the ice.

Go ahead and point out that you would take their opinion over mine. The consensus(group think) gets stuff wrong as often as right when projecting(probably more often wrong).

What's your opinion based on to assess Podz not having offensive skills? Did you see him live?

I can find reports like that of players who didnt live up to their top 6 projections. Lots in fact. It just looks cliché when you compare what was said, and what developed. I'm sure if people wrote those pre-draft reports now, a year and a half or two later, some may have something different to say. I'm not sure in the redraft rankings he would be anywhere near the top 10.

Some had him ranked higher. Fact: He was available at 10 and how much further would he have slipped? We dont know...

Some scouts talk about his offensive toolkit. Fact: It's pretty invisible as of now and he keeps falling down the depth chart in Russia.

Like I said, a lot of scouts blow smoke. And yes, most every prospect doesn't live up to their draft day billing, otherwise there'd be 50 Modanos and 50 Lidstroms in the leauge.

I find it also cliche (in the most Trumpian way) to write off opinions because they agree as "group think" and "cliche". Just because you have a different opinion doesn't make the other group a flock.

As for what has developed – not much. He hasn't even played a full season post-draft, nor has he set foot in North America. He's 19 years old.

Yeah, I flew to Russia last week just to see him play in the VHL. lol

I've watched some of his games. Watched many shift by shift videos of him over the last year and a half. More than the people cutting and pasting old scouting reports of him I bet. The ones who think he's a lock for top 6 are all in on these reports. Green laughs at you.

Yes he plays with determination. I see a lot of Tyler Motte in him. Better passer... but not exceptional.

If JV ever turned into a rink rat & weight room & video room junky he’d be a beast. His drive is highly questionable unlike Pod. Miller should ride JV endlessly. Petey & Pod practice together would up Pod’s skill set. Hughes/Schmidt set up Brock one timers. Off season working together would pay big rewards.
- Nighthawk

I think you missed the JV interview on his signing where he's training with Myers. That's everything from rink, workouts to eating. Not sure if they watch video during their down times together.

In bold... I see the business of online scouting reports heavily influenced by group think. What others have to say often shapes what people write. How is that Trump?

You just don’t get it stupid. If you are negative on a Canucks prospect your opinion is worthless unless you have seen them live. However, if you are an advocate of a prospect scouting reports from 2 years ago are ironclad proof that players will be superstars

Thought maybe you saw him at Hilinka tournament in Van like others did. You talk of Russia as if you've been there like others may have. I've done both by the way. Anyway, Podz is above Motte but that doesn't make him a lock for top 6 either.

We'll see where Green goes with what options he has before him. But to rule him out, as not having the potential to be considered, is a pretty strong take from watching "some" games or video.

Falling down the depth chart?

That avoids the politics of the KHL & Russia that doesn’t exist in any other league. NHL flops can star in that league.

What the (frank) have I ever said that sounds like I've been to Russia? Thats dumb.

Before the spinners take your comments further, I am not suggesting he is no more than another Motte. He'll be a better player... but his hustle and forecheck are very comparable to Motte. This is a good thing if he can put together other skills. I don't believe those skills are developed enough for the top 6 or will they in a few months.... or ever is the scary question. This is going to take some work...

Pod is closer to the latest version of Burrows. Hustles every shift & takes no games off. A fan favourite in the making.

Fair enough. Most prospects start in the bottom 6 or in sheltered roles. Don't think anyone is expecting different. Its the ceiling to floor projections that are being so watched and advocated.

At least you recognize now the "potential" is there to be top 6. The hyperbole by others calling Podz a bust is way too premature.

Perhaps. Burrows was undrafted. Podz is a top 10 pick. No one saw those skills in Burrows. Not many GM's would pick Burrows top 10 based on his reports at the time. Not if they wanted to keep their job. Took Burrows half a career to put it all together. Hopefully Podz has a better path to the NHL being a top 10.

Yet here, HF, Twitter you find people saying he'll immediately slot into the top 6.

I'm not going out of the way to tell people they are wrong. On the contrary, my opinions are drawing in those responses.

Prospects don’t start in the bottom 6. That’s not much of a prospect ceiling. Any prospect with real potential starts in the mid 6. Role players are 4th line.
