Blocking a younger player from getting playing time?
- powerenforcer

I've not seen any better younger players unfortunately.

Dano is just hanging on. It's so odd thinking back on how much hype he had when the Hawks acquired him from the Jackets. Former 1st rounder and supposed impact like Atkinson or even Point. That was a major miss.

@PuckReportNHL

Winnipeg Jets sign forward Marko Dano from #CBJ on a one-year, two-way contract worth $700K at NHL level.

That one poster who claimed to be an ex NHL player really hyped him on the board...forget the guys name. He used to write the longest posts everrrrrrrrr.

Also not sure if it was just one of the posters on here messing with JJ and co. can't really remember but it was discussed at some point on this blog lol!

Edit: MexicoHawk I believe? Or something like that.

NHL.com have recent articles ranking the best forward lines for "fantasy stacking options" in 2020-21.

The Hawks were ranked 19th for the 1st line with Toews centering Kubalik and Shaw:

For the 2nd line, the Hawks ranked 9th with Kane and DeBrincat centered by either Dach or Strome:

It's a mercy really. Not that I could see the game anyway this week unless I went to a bar which isn't happening.

That said, hope everyone's ok. I know Spriggs and Iefedi were being held out but sounds much larger now.

Very scary how the Hawks "first" line looks in comparison to the others.

TSN's picks on 4 players who may benefit from the long wait for the new season to start: Erik Karlsson, Frederik Andersen, Evgeni Malkin, Nolan Patrick.

Maybe not on the same level but hoping Seabrook is a major benefactor, too. Not expecting him to be a 1st pair defender ever again but reliability on the 3rd pair or even spot duty on the 2nd pair would be solid.

If Shaw can regain his impact that has made him a valuable player for the Hawks and Habs in the past, then a 1st line of him, Toews, and Kubalik isn't all too bad.

Alas, that's a big if for Shaw to bounce back to that level. He may be best on the 3rd line. We'll see how the lines shake out.

It would be huge for the Hawks if both Seabrook and Shaw had comeback seasons even if a notch below their glory days.

I'd be very doubtful of the chance that Shaw (even if healthy) is playing 1st line - or whatever line you call Toews'.

Interesting tweet from Cap Friendly. Essentially the Hawks are paying about $57.5 million in actual dollars for a cap hit of $76.3 million. Only the Kings and Coyotes have bigger discrepancies.

@CapFriendly

Based on our current team makeups, the #Leafs are the only club where total salary expenditures are greater than their current overall cap hit (+$9,666,467)

Biggest discrepancies:
1. #LAKings -$20.6M
2. #Coyotes -$19.7M
3. #Blackhawks -$18.8M
4. #Canucks -$16.4M
5. #Habs -$14.8M

Even if Seabrook and Shaw come back strong, Colliton is still going to play youngsters ahead of them in many instances. Love it or hate it, that's the plan that Colliton hasn't been shy about talking about in recent interviews.

I don't think it would be a good thing, let alone huge, if both Seabrook and Shaw have comeback seasons because that would entail them playing significant minutes which would be minutes young players would not be getting. The only caveat being that Seabrook plays well enough to entice a team to take him in a trade, even with salary retention. Shaw, with his health issues, may be able to play well for a while but he's not part of the long term rebuild plan so him getting minutes seems at odds with the stated objective of youth movement.

I think Colliton's deployment of players will address what you are stating. My gut is both Seabrook and Shaw will play limited roles. Even if they play well -- or perhaps exceedingly well -- they will still take a back seat to the youth development.

Like you said, that could be a blessing in disguise as far as making both of them more attractive on the trade market. Of course, this assumes both can maintain good health.

Very interesting, so Wirtz will not be impacted financially during Covid like some of the other owners, or at least not as much.

With the amount of drinking going on in quarantine, I’m guessing he’s actually money ahead.

Yeah, I'd be really interested to see the total consumption variation between the increase in direct consumer purchase vs. the decrease in restaurants.

I have some friends that moved up to Santa Rosa in April and they've spoken to several wineries that were hurting. Add into it the fires up there and the northern CA wine industry is going to be hurting for a few years. There is going to be a big shortage of red wines from the Napa area in 2020. Most were still on the vine and got smoke taint (I hate typing that word). Cab, Merlot, Zin, and a lot of Pinot makers are calling people from different regions just to get a vintage out.

Sorry for going way off topic. Not much Hawks news aside from the Athletic taking a fan survey and reporting that everyone hates Colliton and Stan, and its' one of the few things in which I have both interest and knowledge.

Cheers everyone!

A lot of the fans identified over at The Athletic who hate both Stan and Colliton, are likely more ignorant or limited than smart when it comes to deciphering the job and circumstances Stan and Colliton faced. Not saying they are without faults, but the hatred exposes their lack of proper evaluation.

He had 21 in 35 I remember in his rookie season and looked really good for a hot minute. It didn't take long to see he was going nowhere. Actually I'm one who doesn't mind taking a shot on trading for high end draft pedigree like the nylander deal similar to trading for dano. We saw firsthand how it could click with strome. That was a pretty exciting time but seems to be history.

So agree with that! Nylander really isn't a fit on team, Not a sniper to be set up by Kane, Not a Saad type to go into corner?
He really is a guy who should have played a few seasons in AHL.

New blog! A look at whether the Blackhawks blueline pipeline is strong enough to churn out a solid Starting 6 especially if a prototypical Big 3 isn’t in the cards.
