Here's a question that I don't know the answer to. If, God forbid, this whole season gets cancelled, how does that work from a contract perspective? Do all contracts slide a year or does it essentially burn a year off everyone's deal? I'd imagine that we could slide Laf's entry level deal since he hasn't played an NHL game yet, but I think he's the only one that we can do that with.
The guy almost put up a PPG last season and people think 4.5 is too high? Y'all are crazy - people were throwing out numbers that started with 7 at the beginning of the RFA period. Good value signing, surprised it's so low. - Bartacus
Because w'all watched him play every single game, which you obviously did not do.
I assume the "people" throwing out those numbers were Ek? If any GM actually thought that highly of Strome we would have traded him for our true 2C weeks ago.
I think that you're right in that it's a value signing, but only just.

yeah, I really don't know, and I don't think the league knows either, if they have to cancel the season completely I think the sport is severely damaged overall though
Depending on Strome's season, I would leave him and Lemieux exposed. If Strome goes total nuclear and lights it up, I'd leave Howden exposed. - Bean_Dip
Yep, and hope that Seattle values Kinkaid's NHL experience!! Bottom line is we are positioned well for it.

I'm not going to pretend it would not damage the league. We have no idea how many millions of dollars would be lost and how contracts would have to be renegotiated. However, if hockey is scrapped it means the NBA is also likely scrapped, and the two could probably model off each other on what to do. Unlike labor stoppages, I think the fans would come back pretty much in full from the get go. It may take some time, but I think the league would bounce back.

Trade Strome, ADA, and a third for Johnathon Toews($1.5M retained) and sign Vatenen for 2x$5M

Do you remember how contracts were handled in 04-05? Obviously a different environment now but could be an indication of what they'd do

I don't know what they did without a salary cap nobody cared - jimbro83
I just remember there were a fury of CBO. Was actually pretty exciting. I wonder though if the season was scrapped and 1 CBO was awared, you scrapping Shatty who would save more the next season or Hank which gets rid of 2 dead cap years?

Well that was kind of the point of my question. If all contracts burn a year and from a contract standpoint this year happened (i.e., Chytil would be an RFA going into 21-22), then I would imagine that the buyout cap hits get burned as well. So we'd still go into 21-22 with $4M in dead cap from Hank, Shatty and Girardi. Also unsure if we'd be able to apply a CBO retroactively to someone we already bought out. I think if we got one they would have to seriously consider using it on Kreider now that we have Laf, if they use it at all

I think they would roll over a year .Wouldn't burn a year
