How? Those decisions are up to the States not the Federal Government. - Bufsaints8
Yes, but there are other ways to "motivate" them to do so (i.e. threaten to withhold Federal funding on all sorts of things if they don't). There is still a Republican majority in the Senate, though, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Games aren’t spreading the virus. And that’s games, believe it or not, in just about any sport. I’ve been saying for a while that I couldn’t think of a single example of the virus being transmitted on the field, and Sills confirmed that for me.
“We have seen zero evidence of transmission player-to-player on the field, either during games or practices, which I think is an important and powerful statement,” Sills said. “And it also confirms what other sports leagues have found around the world. We regularly communicate with World Rugby, Australian rules football, European soccer leagues. To date, no one has documented a case of player-to-player transmission in a field sporting environment. - buffalofan19
Imagine that, someone acting like the virus doesn't spread. Someone who represents the league and wants sports to continue. Why would he give a false take?
100,000 new cases a day and every single case proven to NOT be transmiited via sports contact.
wow, impressive |

you are very much correct. in turn since a total shutdown would be very very very unlikely and almost impossible one can discern that an nhl season starting on Jan 1 is almost surely not going to happen or in fact impossible from my previous comment/opinion. I stand by that opinion. |

That would be valid except for we also have a case for the NBA, when it shut down. Not one Utah Jazz opponent over the previous two weeks had tested positive for it either when Rudy Gobert did.

I wonder how quickly the vaccine can be distributed and mass produced if completely approved?

Cuomo was on GMA yesterday saying he doesn't trust the current administration's plan and that he's working with other governors to stop it. Say what you will about whether or not that's justified, but if he gets enough support, there's going to be a delay.

that quote by cuomo is pretty disappointing. there's a vaccine now but it sucks to him that it didn't take longer. what am I missing here? |

It's not about the vaccine itself, but the plan to distribute it. I have zero idea what that plan looks like, but the point is, if he stonewalls it, regardless if its politically motivated, or there really are flaws in it, it's going to take a while to distribute.
Let's face it, the timeline for everything related to COVID, from a two week shutdown to stop the spread, to sports returning to play, to reopening in many areas of the country and the world, for that matter, has been much longer than expected. I have zero reason to believe that vaccine distribution will be any different.

preliminary numbers look like around 50,000 units will be made by the new year and 1.2billion by the end of 2021. let's assume that around 200,000 will be made by the time biden is sworn in... I say just get them out asap. wheres the disconnect? biden (harris) can deal with the next 1,199,800,000 units. that's not satisfactory?
edit: Pfizer is a privately held company. I for one do not like the idea of any government telling a privately held company how to conduct business in general. there is a term for that, I won't say it here because it's quite inflammatory but it sounds like that's exactly what cuomo wants to happen. |

I just can't see them playing a season without gate revenue
and I do not see some of these governors allowing fans at the arenas

i agree, at some point we may have to accept the virus. i have accepted (early on) and deal with it. Others need to accept the virus and deal with it as well.
Pretending there's gonna be no end in sight, seems like a negative mentality?
There will be a world wide cure, seems like they are getting closer...
we may miss another season of live sports, before we're paying $6 a gallon for mug root beer and "accepting risk' by going to sporting events.

And if that's the case, widespread distribution will be well after the actual vaccine is available. There's also a question as to who will be required to take it, and who will be prioritized. If the goal is mass vaccination with almost zero exemptions, that's going to take a while, especially when you consider the number of people needing to take the vaccination will be much greater than the number of people actually taking COVID tests, including the antibodies.

Trump still in office, therefore he might get some credit? Two more months and they can take all of the credit for themselves? Both sides have done their part that has helped to make a political football out of this pandemic, why stop now? |

Ok, seems like some cases of the corona virus do not spread among coaches and players. Glad to hear.
But, some cases are not traceable. Many people have no idea how they contracted the virus.
I guess all a coach? infected humans will eliminate their basketball coach as a spreader, because in one instance players didnt get sick? That should help tracing. Stop tracing once it hits a coach? |

it will be like the flu. itll always be here but enough people will get the flu shot where it's not an overwhelming risk of death to the general population going forward. |

exactly. every single death is trumps fault. a vaccine comes out and he gets zero credit. pretty standard rhetoric. its shameful. |

Please don't take this the wrong way, but some US citizens are worried that the president may lie about a vaccine? He has been proven to lie frequently and its fair to say people are skeptical.
I"m happy a private company has come up with the recent vaccine. I'm waiting, until that 2nd vaccine, under the new leadership.
I love going to the games live. Very odd feeling in October, not being at the arena and enjoying the walk to the arena when its actually warm.
Yesterdays Bills game would have been the best in decades. Prime opponent, rare visit, 1 loss, mvp canidate.
oh well, i can wait until the 2022 season |

This is my main question about this vaccine. Is it an actual vaccine, or like the flu shot which really isn't a vaccine at all, in that it doesn't really prevent the flu, it just helps mitigate the symptoms even if you do get it.

Absolutely. Experts were saying at the beginning of this pandemic that a vaccine was possible late 2020/ early 2021. Bang on. They need a little more examination but 90% efficacy is way beyond their expectations. That said, if all goes well early-mid next month they'll be focusing their limited quantities on health care workers and the most susceptible, eg. the elderly. That's what I've gathered so far. |
