For all of you who voted for Biden, you might have wanted to read ALL of his tax plan. Had you done that, and understood what it meant to over 100 million homeowners and over 30million small business owners which is unlikely in many cases, you would have discovered that homeowners would forfeit anywhere from 15-55% of the value of their homes to taxes when they die instead of those funds going to their kids and grandkids as inheritance. Small business owners, who are usually also homeowners, will forfeit even more.
The reason this would occur is that Biden plans to eliminate the decades old law that allows for the "Step Up in Basis" of assets from cost basis to Fair Market Value on date of death. To illustrate: assume your parents bought a home for $180,000 35 years ago and it is worth $800,000 when they die tomorrow. Under current law, the heirs, who aren't going to move into the house since they have lives, kids and homes of their own, would be able to sell the house for $800,000 and not pay Capital Gains tax. Under Biden's plan, those heirs will pay tax on the $620,000 gain, and Biden plans to increase the tax rate on Capital gains. He also has talked about taxing it as ordinary income rates, which would be 39.6% + 3.8% Obamacare tax added on which would mean you would forfeit almost 50% of your inheritance in TX, FLA, NV, and TN and over 50% in every other State.
Add in the Small Business Owners and its a disaster. It has been estimated that the Biden plan will siphon approximately $30 TRILLION DOLLARS from American families over the next 20 years if this is enacted. With studies by Yale/MIT and the National Academy of Sciences showing that granting amnesty to all illegals will mean an immediate $5.31 Trillion dollar liability to cover their Social Security payments plus the costs of the Green New Deal and Medicare for All etc, you can see why Biden and Democrats are doing this.
So: Be careful what you wish for..you may get it.
