Trouba is a good D in the league. I criticized him since he was a jet over his undisciplined penalties, and concerning positional play and passing choices. He is a freak, athletically speaking. Skates effortlessly and hits hard. 8M was too much, but I'd take Trouba at 8M over Meyers at 6M. The emergence of Fox/DeAngelo as suitable top pairing RD's certainly didn't do Trouba any favors. Nor did buying our Shatts, giving up Pionk and a 1st, to help accommodate this trade.
Trouba could still be an 8M D in this league, he just needs to shore up some minor deficiencies and play a simpler game. I certainly do not have him as a top 10 bad contract in my books. I did not read the article but Skinner/Bobrovski/Seabrook/Meyers/Suter/Parise/Lucic/Neal/Ericsson/Ladd are 10 contracts far worse than this one. |

If you could go back in time and change ONE thing in #Rangers history, what would it be and why?
Probably go back to 1979 draft and get the Rangers to draft Mark Messier 34th overall instead of Ed Hospodar |

We don't know for sure, but I do wonder had he been with the team at that time, if it would have made a difference.

That's a good one, how about jumping in front of the Isles on almost every single one of their dynasty draft picks? In modern times? Literally pick anyone else in 03 and just take Tarasenko

I’ve noticed that for some reason it’ll work if you’ve already commented on the thread.

Good point.
And all of those contracts are worse. Kings have some bad deals too, but so does every team. |

We could have drafted Kevin Lowe, Dale Hunter or Guy Carbonneau before we even got to Messier. |

1980, we could have taken Brent Sutter
1981, Al MacInnis
1982, Dave Andreychuk went literally the pick after us.
1887, Joe Sakic
1990, Tkachuk, Brodeur
1991... Seal the deal on the Lindros trade.
1993, Jonsson, Deadmarsh, Koivu, Bertuzzi
2003, ANYONE!

Some of you guys need to dream bigger than this
We are talking about going back in time to change one moment in Rangers history.
You would use that power so Brian Leetch would have finished that awful 2003-2004 season as a Ranger?
Cmon think big |

even just taking Brian Propp instead of Doug Sulliman in 1979
that's actually in the book by Ratso Sloman A Season in Hell with the New York Rangers
a couple of the players complained that it was ridiculous for the Rangers to take Sulliman over Propp just because he was Don Maloney's best friend.
That's literally how they made that draft decision. |

But, without being a part of 4 championships in Edmonton, what kind of player would Messier grow into? Probably no Cup in 94. |

To me giving our history of drafting from the franchises inception, it's still hard to believe we actually put together enough coherent draft picks in the 80s to form a cup contender.
Just think, the scout that wanted to take Hank was basically screaming from the top of lungs to take him in like the 4th round, and the team only took him because I'm sure they were out of ideas. At least it seems like this century most years we sorta righted the ship, but god this franchise has sucked at drafting.

I bet he stops those mid-late 80s Flyers teams though. Edmonton still would have been really good, but I could have seen us sneaking in a cup before the Mario years. We wouldn't have played center roulette for about 5 years too.
Just think, we finished 1st in division one year with Kelly Kisio as our top center. I mean, you gotta think Mess makes that team light years better.
