He's 24. I wonder how much of an investment they should make on his development into a two way player? That part of his game is poor and he seems better suited on the wing at this point. Do we sit back and say wait til he's at least 26 before it's decided if he's a fit? This team needs better sooner....

Agree the wing may be better. I'm just not ready to throw the towel in on him just yet. Only 2 seasons and good progression of numbers last year based off his TOI. Regardless of age he's still basically a rookie. Would like to see a full season with full 3rd line minutes then see where we are at.

How can this be? He'll be starting on the 3rd line for us at bare minimum next season???

After an excellent showing at the Karjala Cup, it appears Vasily Podkolzin is a healthy scratch for SKA this morning.

BTW, #91 Linden Vey is a 1C and #7 Oscar Fantenberg is a top 4 D in Valeri Bragin's world. Thinking face

You're right about Gaudette, put up decent numbers for a 3LC, Virtanen also put up decent numbers, numbers that are indicative of a 2LW.

Podz will be a 3LW by the end of the first season he plays in the NHL.

At least this is a somewhat realistic prediction.

I'd just like to point out that Ryan Strome never scored more then 40 in a season until he was 26 years old and put up 59 in 70 last season. 5OA pick

Nathan Mackinnon was 22 years old and in his 4th season before he broke a ppg. He was a 1st overall pick who took 4 seasons to show his worth. 1OA pick

Brad Marchand was 27 when he officially broke 60 points a year. 71OA Pick

Jonathan Huberdeau was 25 when he broke a ppg. 3OA pick

Sean Courturier was 25 before he scored more than 40 points in a season. 8OA Pick

By all accounts most of these players would be certainly considered busts by 3/4 of you because at 20 they weren't destroying the NHL, takes time to develop a more complete player. All top 6 players now.

Pretty sure WD would be coach of the year every year in the KHL.

Two years his contract is up. He will be 31 just in his prime. Van could bring him back to play in the top 6.

Got Petey playing 18-20 minutes a night.

Got Bo playing 18-20 minutes a night.

That leaves 10-12 a night for Gaudette and Beagles lines.

On instagram these two are doing "forward corps power rankings"

I have no idea why one is doing the even numbers and other is doing odds.

They aren't finished yet just up to #8 but they have Van ranked at 14th.

https://www.instagram.com/nhlbreakers/?hl=en -odds

I'd have to say they have been pretty spot on IMO so far. Van sitting 14th is about right for what the current roster looks like.

So our new top 6 winger may be available sooner

If the worlds is cancelled, my understanding is a window will open early where his KHL contract will be considered expired.

Aren't the World Championships after the end of the KHL playoffs? Don't know that this puts him in Vancouver any sooner than what's already anticipated.

Something about March at the earliest was floated around. He'll miss a couple of months practice time with Bo.

More prospect talk in the new blog. Good things to report from the Deutschland Cup and the USHL...

That seems to be the initial implication, but does it make any sense? If the World Jr. Championships are cancelled we'll let you out of your KHL contract early?

It makes more sense if it's the men's World Championships because it may save the team from being responsible for the player (insurance premiums, etc.) after the Russian league is finished.
