Canucks only have Woo in the pipeline as RSD and top 4 potential. That's years away if he makes it. Not having drafted a RSD, they overpaid cap money instead of trading top young talent to get one. Drafting RSD is all luck of the draw when going BPA.
Which is better losing more talent through trade or living with an overpayment on cap? - NuckUp
Top 4 D come at a very high premium. They rarely are moved. Canes have some to target.
UFA til we are positioned to make a blockbuster. We are not there yet. Boeser would be the piece if sooner than later. That would require prospects to impact in a huge way for that to be possible. |

Yeah, I read that in the article. What I was getting at was that Madden doesn't look as great a prospect as some made him out to be. - manvanfan
Agree but a short rental of TT still hurt our prospect pool. That’s the risk these days. |

I don't know if you hadn't noticed but the Tampa Bay Lightning just won a Stanley cup with
Buyout Bogo,
Buyout Shatty
Jan whotta?
Cernak
Bounced around Schenn. - manvanfan
I did but did you notice they had a top stud D named Hedman & rising star Sergachev & so much depth/talent upfront Stamkos was a non factor & some scrub in goal?
Ryan McDonough is top 4.
Cernak was more than solid.
Shatty is far from washed up & his game suits TB’s style. 😂 |

Myers the better all around D played against significantly easier competition throughout the year than Tanev did. Yet was still a -9 vs Tanev and his +1
Best thing that could happen to Green is that is forced to do something. - manvanfan
Tanev doesn’t do anything but play conservative albeit very solid at it. Hughes helped him more than vice versa. |

They created a defence that plays together. Van added Hughes and Myers to their top 4 and gave up more goals per game than the year before without them. |

Clearly only in shot counts because he's got a lot less goals against 5v5 than Myers and Hughes.
First time Myers was a minus player on the season since being traded to Wpg half way through 14-15.
Always had Buff and Trouba playing in front of him for better parts of the seasons. |

Does it matter anymore. All Canucks have on RSD is Myers like him or not. You advocate to expose him as no big deal. That's just a hole they can't afford. |

A transition year. Bottom 6 didn’t do their job well. My reasons & where the focus should be. |

I always refer to D pairing dynamics. It’s not a plug & play situation. Chemistry & d schemes dictate so much so that I don’t focus on an individual. Scape goats are not my style generally speaking. I rather look at the bottom 6 & what they cost & what they gave. Only Motte meets my satisfaction. Gaudette I like but I put more on a C to be a 200’ player. He has to improve his D. The value on the bottom 6 caused much of problems keeping the biscuit outta the basket. |

Thank goodness you aren't the GM. You probably would have said sorry but no to the Schmidt deal because the bottom 6 didn't do their job. |

Both were paid more & neither took the Jets far. Myers doesn’t hold back a team when it’s a team game & there is much to spread around. It’s Baumers job to make D excel at their highest level. He hasn’t done that. Hughes is Hughes & after that nobody has excelled or improved during his tenure. |

That happens with offensive minded/Norris Dmen like Hughes. Without Tanev our shots against will drop especially with Schmidt replacing him. Markstrom saved our ass many night but by moving on from Tanev/Stecher back there will only improve us. |

Huh?
Bottom 6 is Sutter Beagle LE Roussel. Motte is high value. Gaudette is still improving. |

Tanev on a contender is 3rd pairing for what he offers. It would take 3 very good D for him to be a 4. Stecher although a ton of heart is in over his head literally. They didn’t hold us back & they weren’t the answer. |

Your opinion which I really disagree with Myers>Tanev, Tanev is a fantastic defensive defender. Myers has a much better all round game and can actually hit the net with a point shot.
You are correct that team doesn’t know...but these guys have been in the system for a while, if they ever get a call up, the greatest coach in Canucks history refuses to play them. You know the coach I mean, the one that is really good at developing players. - Makita

They can protect 3 D.
Who do you expose?
The idea was born from you saying they should go 4 and 4, just to protect Myers, that's silly talk, if they get another top 4 RSD, they expose Myers, protect both new guys and OJ, OJ has more trade value and upside then Myers will after this season, considering age and cap hit.
I like Myers and don't want to lose him. |

I was just reading an article about Stecher and his season and it was saying how Stecher's corsi was in the mid to low 40's but his actually scoring during that time was like 15 for and 6 against.
4 minutes less 5v5 per game, he was the ice for half as many 5v5 goals as Myers was. In a more sheltered role though but half
Obviously him getting destroyed every game just wasn't going to last. The Van D is still quite soft. Adding OJ to it, not really going to help.
Schmidt is no more physical then Tanev was. Blocks a lot less shots but wasn't playing top pairing. I think he probably moves the puck better than Tanev and provides a bit more offence.
To conclude,
I think 5v5 I would like to see
Edler Schmidt
Hughes Myers
OJ Benn
Myers was better with Hughes with xgf% but most of the time them playing together was probably after a PK with Edler and Tanev on the ice. Probably meant against weaker opponents. |

Well...I spent the afternoon with an old buddy who served in the Canadian Navy for forty years, a great afternoon of me listening to his stories. Back in the day those guys made just over a dollar a day. Crazy!
To all those who serve....thank you for your service |
