My assumption is this "New Direction" is to infuse young players into the lineup with the destination being to win the Stanley Cup with those young players forming the nucleus of the team.
"New direction" is an amorphous term. It provides little in how to reach the destination and milestones along the way with which to measure progress.
Is this a 3-year plan, a 5-year plan, a 10-year plan? The answer is unknowable at this point but there should be expectations against which progress can be measured and adjustments made along the way if needed.
I suppose we're not privy to that level of plan detail but from the outside it seems, at least so far, they're not making moves that would benefit this new direction. One such move would be to trade deHaan or Murphy to open a slot for one of the young d-men to get NHL games under his belt. They have one salary retention slot available which could be used to move one of those players out of the way. They have the cap space in 2020/21 and 2021/22 - why not use it to get closer to the destination? - EbonyRaptor
I don't think the "new nucleus" is here yet. Who are the next set of "all stars?" Dinky and Kubalik are 3rd line on a cup team. The Defense has yet to produce a first pair player. Boqvist's expectations are high but that's all he is right now. The same goes for the rest of the "young D suspects."
So far, there is Dach, and Dach and did I say Dach? and he's still a prospect.

Fair enough. Maybe Wallmark gives JC enough options down the middle to finally move Toews to 3C where he belongs. - DarthKane
A smart coach would put Toews in the press box for the first 15 games.

No impact on Blackhawks prospects. Boston University is the college with the most Chicago prospects (Wise, Vlasic, Commesso).

I was thinking about why Strome hasn't been signed, and was wondering if it was because the Hawks were thinking about offer sheeting someone. We have $5 million in cap space, so we could look for a top 6 wing, or a 3C, to offer sheet. If we sign a young, fast 3C, we could then trade Strome for a pick or prospect that could hopefully turn into a top 6 forward or top 4 dman. |

If Strome would bring that back he would have been traded already irregardless of an offer sheet. |

If and big if cirelli from tampa would be the target if offer sheet from the. Hawks 3 to 4 years at 3.5 to 4 million per year but doubt bowman does it. Offer sheets rarely happen and more often than not the offer is matched. Imo cirelli and the Russian stay in tampa and cernak is traded for a pick or prospect. |

Figure Corelli and Sergachev take team friendly deals for a combined $8 million, that puts them $5.5 million over the cap. Cernak since he is an unsigned UFA, is not in those figures. Tampa needs a dumping ground for Tyler Johnson at the bare minimum to make the cap.

I read the part that said for a 3L center. And that was possible. But how much better would that 3L center be than our own guys. Rather dump Strome for a draft pick?
But only a #3 at best offered. Strome unprotected for Expandion Draft is another option for his departure. |
