Podz and Hogger both have top 6 upside, may not be this upcoming season(also can't rule it out) but they definitely have it. Podz can potentially come in and be that right away, doesn't mean you ship off Pearson. If Podz comes in after KHL season expires and earns the top 6 spot, Pearson on our 3rd line makes us that much better. - Retinalz
Podz making his return to the line up with a goal and an assist.
Hogz also scored a goal and an assist.
Zlodeyev with two assists

NEW YORK – A loud and boisterous crowd of fans are demanding the NHL stop the conspiracy to steal the Stanley Cup from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Approximately 200 fans protested outside the NHL’s New York City Headquarters in an effort to reverse previous losses, missed playoffs, and the team’s inevitable mediocre performance this season.
“This should have been our year, just like all the other years,” shouted a man wearing a Doug Gilmour jersey claiming the game has been rigged since 1968. “And we’re going to win this year, but the tyrannical NHL doesn’t want the truth that we are, hands down, the best team.”
Other passionate partisans claimed the Tampa Bay Lightning and the other 28 teams in the league were plotting against their team by dumping extra pucks into play.
“There was a second puck that slid in the net, but [Frederik] Andersen clearly stopped it,” said another fan showing a grainy video of two pucks he found on the internet on his phone.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs head office was suing the NHL demanding a recount of the 2019-2020 GF/GA results.

I agree with Carol, waiting as long as you can to sign Pettersson is probably the best course of action. When things normalize I could see him coming in around 9.5 million per. - Pacificgem
Sounds about right. Still wondering if a bridge for him or Hughes will happen. Undecided what is the best course of action. |

Matthews is one of the best goal scorers in the league, along with Draisaitl, Stamkos, Pastrnak and Ovechin, but he’s not one of the top ten players in the league. - Pacificgem
Again I agree geez lol
No slight against Leaf fans he’s very good but there at least 10 ahead of him. |

Partly wishful thinking and part legitimate question related to VHG's comment about asset mgmt.
The writing was on the wall regarding Markstrom. Freidman would bring it up every time the Canucks played on HNIC. Tanev was also beyond his best before date and they would have known they'd lose him on the open market. Stetcher's name kept coming up around the trade deadline because they couldn't justify what his qualifying offer would need to be.
Like you say, those choices were made in favor of going for a playoff spot rather than trying to build a stronger team for the long term. As fun as their little run was, in hindsight, it might have been better if ownership had pushed Benning to pursue the asset management strategy. - YeOldTimer
Aquilini has never pushed for a slow strategy. Why would he when the team was finally in a playoff spot? Fans (most), the players and ownership would have been furious if Benning tried to sell at the deadline. An interesting “what if” discussion but it was never a realistic option |

Valid point from Harman.
"Benning and the Canucks will face the same cap challenges next offseason as they did this year. As a result, Vancouver faces an uphill climb in its endeavour to emerge as a Western Conference powerhouse within the next two years." - VanHockeyGuy
This is where what Petey & Hughes decide to do will dictate this. I think winning will be more important to both not immediate greed. One or both might see it that way to allow JB some flexibility. Luv to be in the room when young stars discuss the future if with JB if they sign bridge deals & how the team goes forward. Still leaves one season of the prospects to impact the next round of negotiations. If they do well it will help immensely. |

Generational. Over and over Leafs fans called him generational. Many claimed they had 2 generational players when they picked up JT.
The team has been so starved for star power for so long that any top line player is generational in their eyes.

Obviously. Might be worthy of a pin on the team's timeline of futility. We'll have to wait and see. |

Very good NHL talent.
He is only 23 years old though.
Leafs fan say the media is very hard on the club to though. |

EP and QH will get 2-3 year deals due to Flat Cap. I doubt teams will hand out long term, high value contracts until things return to normal and cap starts going back up. - Retinalz

Here's the problem I have with Benning, asset management
Trade the fuking guy for ? instead of letting him walk. - VanHockeyGuy
Are you pinning that on Hoglander &/or others step up? The big question is do FA & JB put winning ahead of asset management? |

Petey & Matthews both top 20 C’s imo.
Both will be top 10 soon enough. |

Leafs blog already complaining that the Canadian division will put them at a disadvantage. The NHL is so unfair to them. |

lol and some in here were rating them #1 to finish in that division. The greed to have game attendance in the USA for NHL games will slant the vote away from hybrid bubble.
Stupid places like Florida, Texas, Tennessee etc will allow fans no matter how bad things are with Covid. I'd rather they go to a hybrid bubble with all 4 divisions in Canada instead of a Canadian division.
But in the end don't care. Just want hockey, and if that means pounding Leaf ass once a week instead of twice a year; so be it. |

Last time they met in the playoffs was 94 and Canucks beat them in the conference final. Would that ever be a fun match up. I had a blast during that series with so many friends from TO around me.

Thanks Carol
5th best center in the NHL?
I'd question whether he's top 10.
Funny, I was in the Toronto thread and I asked them who the top 10 players in the league are.
Who do you think are the 10 best players in the league right now? - manvanfan
I think there was an nhl.com article last week, I'll try and fail to find it and won't post it to back up my theory.... might have been western conference only....
McDavid
Dr. Dre
McKinnon
Pettersson
I forgot the fifth one, probably Sutter. |

Split it east and west
Think Pettersson could be called a top 5 center in the west, so many great centers in the east though with Stamos, Crosby, Malkin, etc... |

No top 5 center has his winger taking his faceoffs for him. In all honesty, EP is learning how to be a center right now. He came out of the SHL a winger... he needs to get competent with the faceoffs. He has to take more of them to do that...

No but he should have the foresight to fill all the holes once the shyte contracts expire.
And not with exclusive AHL talent. All you fanboys are pumping Pod and Hog as top 6 players, so if that's the case trade Pearson while you can get something for him instead of letting him walk for SFA like TT. Sound reasonable or does JB just circle back to him at the bottom of the 9th? - VanHockeyGuy
Nobody has said Hog is top 6. On Pod it’s been said his skill set will eventually have him up & down the top 9 in various roles.
Much has yet to play out before deciding on any TDL moves. I don’t see any current roster traded out til something makes sense. No moves will be a step backwards in theory.
We are currently still in draft/develop mode with prospects having spots to earn or in the least on D to develop on the go or platoon as I hope. ELC’s will be in the line up.
The next 1-2yrs will see vets out & prospects moving in on merit. Subsequent trades will maybe happen as the picture clears more.
Next season is going to be a transition year. |
