Because the Canucks relied so heavily on goaltending, even a slight fall-back with Demko & Holtby will result in the team sliding a bit. We upgraded with Schmidt over Tanev but that won’t really matter if the goaltending isn’t there.
The caveat is, if Green can somehow implement a defensive structure in their systems play. - Pacificgem
Agreed, if results are linear then the team will take a step back this upcoming season. If the young guys elevate further and Green further improves team defense then there is potential for the team to take a step forward (even if that just means playoffs and win a round or two but the youth on the team improve). |

Agreed, but wasn't part of it because Boeser was injured? - Retinalz
For sure, but I think it was more for a playoff push than anything. They acquired Toffoli Feb. 17, twenty one days later (March 10th) Boeser returned to the lineup.
I don’t think they knew when Boeser was going to return but I’m sure they knew he’d be back before the playoffs, even if they wouldn’t admit it, so again, I think they acquired Toffoli because Benning wanted to give the players a chance at the post season after they made huge steps. |

You said the situation is not going to get better, which it isn't, it will get worse, so they should play anyways?
The league/owners can't put bums in the seats, so zero revenue comes in from that aspect of the operation, but expenses are occurred for air travel,, continual covid testing, ice maintenance at not just the game facilities, but practise facilities, hotel costs, food, hockey equipment, on-ice and off-ice officials etc.
The league has been talking with government about cross-border travel and quarantine, other rules that may be in place in different provinces/states.
The players need to be involved in the process and have been through the PA.
All of this and many other situations take time and like any business the dollars have to be considered.
At this time therapeutics and vaccines have nothing to do with a decision to announce a start for the 2021 season, keeping peoplesafe and the integrity of the business are at the forefront of any decisions. - Reubenkincade
Of course the situation is going to get worse. That's what I was saying if they are going to have a season get on with it with bubbles. They proved safe. Hybrid situation rotating out and between with family time. Fans in seats is not happening nor should it. That's why they are delaying the start not for safety reasons. Your comment follow up to that troll tard twist was completely unjustified.

Your comments are fair and balanced. Don't expect same from someone who's gone full troll. They're just looking to sh!tdisturb. Notice as soon as they had no substantive reply they attacked you personally, so as, to try to belittle what you are saying has no merit. Its their MO to feel superior, even though they are truly pathetic in staining the thread of actual hockey conversation. Why I won't engage until they change their ways; if that's even possible. |

So let me get this straight, anyone that defends or tries to see a positive aspect to the moves is a fanboy, rainbow and unicorn loving pom-pomer - in the meantime you're just gonna sit back and see how it unfolds BUT you'll also continue to criticize their opinions...???

Player development coach Chris Higgins on Podkolzin.
"To be honest I don't think there's too much to dislike. I almost think his game is going to translate better when he comes over to the NA ice surface."
"When you put him with better players, he finds a way to evaluate his game"
"Probably more a playmaker then a scorer"

Considering that Horvat is forced into playing a shutdown role vs the opposing teams top lines. It would be good to have a player that is also defensively responsible who "actively seeks contact"(from Higgins) that plays with size and pace on his wing.
Sounds like a very good compliment in the future.
now for the other wing once Pearson has been traded. |

Quick, let me search the internet for something damning against the Canucks and Benning.
AHH HA, I found something, here it is...an “NHL scout” (who is he?) doesn’t matter, could be Eklund...who cares it’s on the internet, in text, has to be true because it’s disparaging to the team.
Anyway “an NHL” scout said this and if you don’t agree you are a fanboy, trying to be positive about the Canucks, stupid fanboys. |

During my boredom, looking at numbers from last season. I've always been kind of.... Why doesn't Horvat get more PK time. Good at draws, defensively responsible.
Crazy that he really kind of sucks at PK duties.
10.64 PP/GA/60 for Horvat. He was on for 5 PP goals against in 28 minutes of PK time.
Compared to say
Beagle 6.83 PP/GA/60 Allowed 19 PP/GA in 166 minutes.
Meaning if Horvat played the same amount of PK minutes as Beagle, He would allow around 29 goals in the same amount of time.
Among forwards who played at least 2 mins per game of PK duties. Tyler Motte is first at 3.53 but he only played 68 minutes of PK time.
Barclay Goodrow and Blake Coleman were 6th and 11th ranked. (Cost TB first round picks)
Beagle 25th and 27th. |

The players have been vocal about not voting to go with the bubble again. Wonder what the NHLPA does when it's put to a vote again?
