Sad to hear that Paul Hornung died today at 84. Easily one of the best players I ever had the privilege of watching in any sport. |

Rumor has it the season may begin January 1st or mid January. I personally want to skip thanksgiving and fast forward to Christmas because I want to see how teams are shaping out. I’m pretty sure there are still some notable UFAs without homes at the moment, like Zdano Chara. I believe we should shed salary still or make some minor deals. I’m sure some of you are comfortable with the team currently. I am not. |

More news that teams will play locally, and with home teams playing games in home rinks.
Flyers likely with Rangers, Debs, Isles, Caps.
Head to head:
Rangers: 3-0-0
Caps: 3-0-1
Debs: 2-1-0
Isles: 0-2-1
Overall: 13 GP 8W 3L 2OTL (18 points from 13 games) |

"Tons of potential," Vigneault said of Frost in September. "If he can put it together and figure it out, he’ll be a real good player for us. He has taken some strides this year, there are still a lot of strides to be taken. With the right attitude, right commitment and the right work ethic, he can be a real good player if he can put it all together."

I really like the kid, and I do see top six potential, but does that last sentence trouble anyone else a little? Or am I reading too much into it?
Does that mean the attitude and ethic isn’t there? Or does it mean he just needs to keep it up? |

Not sure how much we can read into that given we haven’t really heard the kid’s work ethic questioned before. Hopefully he’s just pushing challenging the kid to take the next steps as a player and possibly even a leader. He’s the best forward prospect we’ve got close to the NHL. Looking at the forwards these other teams around us have managed to land in draft lottos we really need Frost to maximize his potential. |

Yes, I read it like...the tools are all there, he just needs to have the time to put in the work to get stronger for example. Not that he won’t, just as a challenge to do it. |

It largely is consistent with how I believe the club sees Frost: a possible top 6, but not a star in the making yet. So, I am not troubled.
Here in HB though, you would think he is the 2nd coming of Barzal.
I would like to hazard a guess. Far from lighting it up this season, Frost will, at most, crack the roster in the later stages of the season and if so, will be an in and out player, and I believe he will score at a rate of about 15-20 points a season (0.2 to 0.25 ppg).
It is next season that will be the season for him, imo, after at least 40 odd games for Phantoms. |

They play 20 games straight between each other. In Buffalo. Chara is resigned for 1 year by Bruins, kills Bettman. |

And I would be just fine with that output to start.
I certainly don’t see him as a Barzal. We’d know that by now. But I do see him eventually as a guy who can be a top 3 or 4 point producer on the team in a few seasons. Maybe points in the 50s? Low 60s?
I’m not tapping my foot on him yet. It’s early. As I’ve said before, some people need time, and the Flyers were able to give him that in order to mature. |

You are wrong on many fronts in my opinion. First you don't fully understand how coaches talk about players and how they use the media at times to send messages. Vigneault is simply talking about what Frost has to do to become a top player. He's not going to come out an anoint him a top player anymore than he would do the opposite. Coaches will challenge players. What he's saying about Frost is what he would say about any player in that position of the development curve. His comments have nothing to do with what the club sees as his development ceiling. Nobody knows that now.
Secondly, you make an underhanded and arrogant comment about HB posters and use Barzal as the example of a second coming. Barzal is a good player but you routinely overrate the player. You're doing that here using him as an example. You need to check yourself before worrying about others.
Frost will make the team this season out of training camp. |

But with that pp/g, that does project to a 2nd line like role, maybe complementary player on 1st line, , so won't their statement be consistent with your expectations?

Not attitude or ethic. He has to work on a few details for consistency. GM, Coaches and player have all spoke about this. Strength play without the puck, speed of play and coverage I think. He will be up as the first call up to a top 9 injury. He is still young. This is normal. In juniors he was able to do what he wanted. More structure better players.

Fair enough. But hopefully much better w/o the puck?
Briere, for all his clutch scoring, was a defensive liability in his stay here, constantly straying towards center ice looking for the breakaway pass.
Much better in Buffalo centering Pominville and Hecht. Maybe Frost centers Bee and Lindblom in our future, if Oskar can play off wing. |

We shall see in time. I think his draft comparison was Monahan if you take any stock in that. |

Article update on some prospects - Peter Richards
In reading. German has had a couple assist over his last few games. Hope he starts to gain that confidence.
Wonder if ginning plans on coming over in the next year or two. Flahr thinks his game is NA suited. I admit besides the articles I don’t know much about ginning.
Hopefully we have goalies a plenty. Hart doing great. Ersson as well. Fedotov getting better. Hope he’s the starter by the end of this year for his khl club.
And last sandin. Promising for the 4 th line.

I think it's classic coach speak for a young player with promise. Don't let his head get too big and keep him thinking he doesn't have a spot unless he really works hard enough to earn it. Any coach would stupid to NOT handle it that way. |
