I think it's classic coach speak for a young player with promise. Don't let his head get too big and keep him thinking he doesn't have a spot unless he really works hard enough to earn it. Any coach would stupid to NOT handle it that way. - Letterkenney
Maybe so, maybe so. Its pure speculation. But if he truly has top 3 potential, such a message could just as easily be discouraging as it could be encouraging. Because it suggests something about his talent level as much as it says about his work ethic.
Look at what he said in September:
Vigneault said Frost, an AHL All-Star last season, has “tons of potential. If he can put it together and figure it out, he’ll be a real good player for us. He has taken some strides this year. There are still a lot of strides to be taken.”
Why not stick to that kind of message? |

But with that pp/g, that does project to a 2nd line like role, maybe complementary player on 1st line, , so won't their statement be consistent with your expectations? - PT21
You don't understand the statement made.

Both messages are the same message, just worded differently. There was nothing discouraging in that message.

Yes!
The whole post started not in regards to my expectations, but rather AV’s last sentence which I quoted prior. Was he trying to motivate him through the media? Telling him to keep up his good work? Or was it flippant?
I’m just hoping it wasn’t the latter. I’m sure we all are. |

I mean, it really could also be just classic BS sports jargon. The same crap they feed us because they’re usually thrown the same softballs over and over, so they make a bunch of vapid clichés and grind through another monotonous interview which they’d rather not be giving. |

His Mom runs a gym and I think he’s worked pretty hard on his strength and conditioning, something the Flyers were suggesting he do....I believe I read how he was a work out machine in “the bubble”. He’s really got a chance to be a top line type of producer and definitely a top 6. Like so many of these kids it’s really up to him if he gets there or not.

It largely is consistent with how I believe the club sees Frost: a possible top 6, but not a star in the making yet. So, I am not troubled.
Here in HB though, you would think he is the 2nd coming of Barzal.
I would like to hazard a guess. Far from lighting it up this season, Frost will, at most, crack the roster in the later stages of the season and if so, will be an in and out player, and I believe he will score at a rate of about 15-20 points a season (0.2 to 0.25 ppg).
It is next season that will be the season for him, imo, after at least 40 odd games for Phantoms. - PT21
Really I have yet to read anywhere in HB that Frost is the second coming of Barzal.
If anything some people wanted to see him get a chance against the islanders in the playoffs.
The kid has talent he just has to figure out how his game translates to the NHL.

Let’s hope so ...Sanheim needs to get stronger. My point is the coaching staff gave Frost his “too do” list. 1) get stronger 2) work on your pace of play.....he tended to coast through shifts in Juniors, despite having superior skating speed...he can’t do that in pro hockey....NHL or AHL. |

He does and I think he will. He had a late growth spurt so I think in two years he will be about 15 pounds heavier. Similar with Myers but a little less. Maybe another 8 pounds for him.

I know. I was just joking about Sanheim because as we all know, kid needs to get stronger too. He has a big frame, and he can play a lot bigger than he does. |
