Murphy performs as a physical dman able to play both sides yet in his prime years. In covid time still and with expansion perhaps Murphy isn't going to fetch a first even if included in a package deal. I wish Murphy and 2nd + Carpenter for a mid round first.

Doesn't throwing in Carpenter lower the value of what we get back for Murphy and our 2nd?

Hawks and the other teams unveil their "reverse retro" jerseys to be worn several times this season (if there is one).

Thanks Theo - fun blog. But one point you make about Subban "stealing games" disturbs me. In a season where the organization is rebuilding, I do not want this team to steal any wins. A high draft pick has to be a goal for this team. Now, I want them playing well, but to steal games they should not win will be a loss in the end.

You like me must have been pissed they got into the fake playoffs?

As someone already tweeeted:

How come they took the "C" away from Toews and gave it to #20 named "Blackhawks"?

Good job with the “ideal” wish list, Theo - I’m a bit more realistic.

For instance - Kubalik and AdB - they don’t have to be 40 goal scorers - I’m not looking for that - you’re “bonus” section for each is more important.

- StLBravesFan

Agreed, 25 goals each and being more difficult to play against would be good years for both.

Yeah, the goal posts moved. That’s what science does - it evaluates, re-evaluates, adjusts, re-evaluates, adjusts....As we learn more about this virus, we learn better ways to deal with it - but the main criteria hold - masks, distance, wash hands, no large gatherings. Had these procedures been more universally in place, we would still be experiencing large numbers of infections, but probably (only probably) wouldn’t need the lockdowns that we are now experiencing. If people follow those procedures starting now, the next eight months will not be the disaster we may be looking at now.

A 90% effective vaccine is a lot better than expected, and would certainly be more than enough to generate the herd immunity (getting R0 below 1) that we are looking for - if enough people take it when it’s available. If the vaccines deliver on their promise - and the immunity lasts long enough - then yes, 20,000 at the UC by the fall of 2021 is certainly possible.

Your sister: let’s see where things are in a month. Other cities and states ARE being overwhelmed. We don’t need to be in Chicago, IF.....

Guessing is not science. The people advising us on the science have been wrong enough for me to give them little credence in their next pronouncement from on high. You can follow their advice if you choose. I'll continue going to restaurants that are ignoring the shut down orders. I'd go to a hockey game today. Sit us in family groups, wearing masks, six feet apart. The "science " says you're safe then, right?

Talking about the 2021 draft & right now just knowing lots of draft picks will be traded as was the story when Vegas was an expansion team starting out. Players i think will have less value than normal. Maybe a toss in like Carpenter helps a team. Two veterans in Murphy and Carpenter. Murphy may be protected from expansion by his new team whom we trade him to - maybe. We have kids coming up for 4th line. We can let Carpenter go and even take back a contract as long as the contract is an expiring one.

Excellent blog and so fun to read at a time when there is no hockey going on. The one thing that stands out is many just seem to think the Hawks should mail it in and rebuild. Why not just do what comes naturally to most athletes and that is give it your all and see how far we can go. There is a ton of offensive talent on this team and young talent at forward. If Mitchell and Subban put it together that would be huge. Tough for Debrincat and Kubalik to both score 40 goals as Kubalik kind of took over from Debrincat who was not the same player he was the year before, hoping he can bounce back. Should be able to score enough to win so getting solid goaltending and a revived D could just turn the tides here. Another key factor is the growth of Dach, if he can build off his playoff performance this team should not be mailing it in.

It is people with your attitude that has the virus out of control. For us to beat the virus everyone has to be on board with protocol. It don't matter how tough and resilient you think you are you are obviously being very selfish and not thinking about parents, grand parents or anyone with a compromised immune system.

Sez who? Same people who said the science required us to close the lake shore trail? Or that an outdoor movie theatre is dangerous? Or that masks aren't necessary? Or that they're vital, but it's still not safe enough for us to be near others? Or that routine medical screenings were now dangerous?

Yep, you follow them into the foxhole without questioning a thing they say. I'll pass.

You rather want RHD Clarke or LHD Power & Lambos? C Raty is behind them imo.
- Nighthawk

While it's still too early to predict draft order of teams and of prospects, my current preference is Owen Power. Excellent all-around game, great size, and attention to defense. Potential as a #1 D-man.

Good point, and one I definitely agree with. If they are going to go anywhere, the Hawks need to have team wins.

Goalie wins are fine once in a while since even the good times have mini slumps but they should be the exception rather than the rule.

As simple as it sounds, the key is a strong combination at forward, on the blueline, and in net.

Yeah, I could've switched the main statement with the bonus statement for a few players.

If DeBrincat and Kubalik fall short of 40 goals, I'm fine with that if (A) their overall games are much better and help the team in other ways, and (B) those goals they don't score get picked up by everyone else.

I have them as 40 goal scorers because that is their ceiling. If they hit potential, that is what we should expect from them, IMO.

Seriously, I guess I thought of you helping me not contract something from inside your body (that releases through your mouth /nose ...) that you simply are doing me this politeness...

You cover your mouth when you squeezed before the pandemic. right?

Why?

I simply dont understand the Lake Shore Trail, outdoor movie theatre connections...

They don't fit the world-wide issue.

Enough smart people are saying this is a way to slow this down.

I thought we were past smart people thinking like this....

How did you think the Western States are in such high contagious rates?

I would like to see de Haan stay healthy and have a decent season. If he does, he will be really attractive to Seattle. That would take 4.5m off the books and open up a roster spot for another prospect. Otherwise, they might try to poach Highmore.
- biskit67

Yes, de Haan's spot would become Carlsson's spot. Until he gets moved, I'm fine for Carlsson to wait a bit longer if de Haan can stay healthy and play steady defense.

But if de Haan reinjures himself, Carlsson should be in line step up. Bowman then has to deal with how to manage an oft-injured asset in de Haan.
