I made this up when the Bears had Cody Parkey doinking every kick and a sports writer said " you don't spend a lot on Kickers, they're easy to find."
"Kickers are like pilots, you pay them for when you really need them." |

Well, I’ll be spending 8+ hours in a simulator over the next two days practicing worst case scenarios. Hopefully I don’t need to truly “earn” my pay anytime soon, but after tomorrow, I’ll be as prepared as ever. |

For most of us, if we think our jobs are stressful it doesn't compare to stress like this. |

The fact that you have to practice in a simulator says a lot about how life-and-death critically challenging your profession is. Much appreciation for what you do. Stay safe, Ogi. |

I served on my church council 30 years ago with a guy who was a pilot in Vietnam and was a pilot for United at the time. I got to know him fairly well through the years and he was as intense an individual as I've ever met - almost to the level of being intimidating, not in a bad way but in a righteous way, if that makes sense. The kind of guy you never wanted to be on the other side of an argument because you knew he wouldn't let it go, wouldn't give an inch. But, you know, there wasn't a guy I would rather have piloting the plane I was on than him.

Theo,
When are you gonna do an article on trading the Hawks big 4, and speculating where they will go and for what??? I really think it would be highly entertaining and get a lot of response. I know there has been some comments lately on it, but let's make it a bit more "real", as it appears inevitable. 😁 |

Hey Henry. I did a blog like that a few weeks ago for funzies. Check it out.
https://www.hockeybuzz.co...-Fox/The-Purge/284/108070
That blog sparked lots of comments from fans of others teams which is always great. Some took the exercise too seriously while most just had fun with it.
And I'll admit, I'm not the best person to speculate trade proposals. There are others on these boards who do a better job of it than me.
I can always revisit trading Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook down the line. |

“Don’t make passes that aren’t there” and “make quicker and shorter passes” - absolutely - I’ve been female doging about these two for a while.
But those two things require teammates being in position to create passing lanes that are there, and that help the passer make the quick, short pass.
Most of the time, the stretch pass or pass through sticks and skates comes because the passer has no other option. - StLBravesFan
Couldn't agree with you more. Too many times a player will avoid carrying the puck into coverage/a difficult area. The puck all of a sudden becomes a hot potato. They will dish a pass to a teammate that is also under heavy coverage or in a worse situation. Im not sure if it's lack of confidence or a coaching scheme. But it is the most frustrating thing to watch. Kids in high school make this kind of mistake. We shouldn't see an NHL team consistently playing this way. |

Growing up, I had a coach who constantly talked about being smart in the five feet on either side of the blue line. I always nodded and did what he told us to do with the puck in those areas, but it wasn’t until I grew older that I realized how important those 10 feet of the ice are to playing great hockey. Making smart puck management decisions at your own blue line on breakouts and at your opponent’s blue line on entries are crucial to success as a team. If you are constantly losing the puck at the blue lines, you’re not generating much offense and you’re probably playing a lot of defense in your own end.
This is another big area the Hawks have to clean up. Their puck management at the blue lines is horrible.

Admittedly I'm more of a hard ass when it comes to hierarchical chain of command than most people. I see things as more black and white and less grey. I realize that puts me in the ever shrinking minority opinion on that topic ... but I'm also stubborn so I ain't changing my mind. - EbonyRaptor
Yea, the hierarchy form of management has been proven ineffective time and again. Hell, even the military is incorporating current, advanced management techniques. It’s about communication, accountability, diversity and respect for people. The days of managers like DI R Lee Ermey are long gone. |

The inmates running the asylum has also been proven to be ineffective.
The pendulum of cultural change is too deep and too nuanced to be proven or disproven to be effective until viewed from a long term historical perspective - if even then, and that's assuming a clearly defined objective that can be measured.
Not every situation is subject to decision by committee. There are situations that call for THE decision maker to make the decision - meaning there is a decision maker at the top of the hierarchy. |

Yes! Seabrook in his prime was a first pairing borderline HOF defender. Something close to that can only help. Playing young guys because the old guys are no good means very little. - rpeters01
Just curious because I haven’t really heard anyone use the term top pairing HOF defender. Does this mean Seabrook is one of the top two players to ever play defence, borderline? |

I believe that he meant to say that Seabrook was a top pair defender(which he was during three cups) and also a borderline HOF defender, which he is, although I don’t believe that he will be voted in. |
