That's almost free money. I recently locked in for similar for the same reason, inflation is scary poop and it's coming. I'd say lock it in for as long as you can, that's cheap

I expect to change house in the next year so I took only 1 year to avoid penalty. If I were you I'd go 10 years as well, if you expect to keep the house that long.

If you change house for something more expensive and keep the same bank you can transfer it and just just a mortgage for the difference.

Don't think I'll keep the same bank. It's in Chicoutimi and it's not very convenient anymore. I chose them at first because my mom used to work there but now my girlfriend could probably get us a better deal here in Quebec city.

I've always been a believer in the bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and since there's no guarantees on what will happen with inflation, personally I'd lock it in for the long term and enjoy my predictable budgeting
