To Philly: Nylander
To TO: Hagg, Laughton, the Ghost of Christmas past, Clarke’s rusty spittoon, Homer’s dented bike, Michel Therrien, a tub of scrapple, the Philadelphia Eagles, and bottle of Jim Beam
The above is just as likely to happen as anything posted on this site by Ek - BiggE

If Leafs are open to trading Nylander then I think Calgary should get in on the discussion: Maybe a three team trade like this
Calgary - William Nylander 31 G 28 A 59 Pts
New Jersey - Johnny Gaudreau 18 G 40 A 58 Pts
Toronto - Kyle Palmieri 25 G 20 A 45 Pts
Toronto saves 2.3 Million in cap space they can put toward a defenseman and Palmeiri potentially improves point totals playing with better players. Calgary gets Nylander for 4 years and brings with him the hopes that Nylander can score more in the playoffs and New Jersey gets a very skilled and talented home talent who will likely re-sign after 2 years. There may have to be other bits and pieces but this is the main part of what I think would be a win-win-win. - Jeffers33
So we give up Nylander and get Palmieri?

Here are the things we know. We know the cap space situation. We can reasonably guess what the quality of return Toronto would want if they were to move Nylander. We know what defenseman Philly might be willing to move. From that we can see that there really isn't a good fit. Doesn't mean the teams aren't having conversations that are ongoing. People don't realize that's all that Ek reports. He doesn't scoop done deals much before they happen. He just reports the noise. The behind the scenes talks of teams. That's how rumors start and it is a rumor site.

What happened to the series on which team is most ready. Supposed to start Friday morning. I was intrigued to see if the rankings were any different than the revised Vegas odds. |

First of all guys, if Ek is reporting this then obviously there is still some smoke here.
But one thing that makes zero sense to me, and would love Ek to explain it, is...
The Leafs reshaped the roster this offseason, threading the needle around the cap, adding a bunch of cheap guys like Spezza, Thornton, Simmonds, Vesey, Bogosian. I'm sure they would have liked to get a "better" upgrade on some of those roles, but they had no cap space. Now the roster is set. So you are telling me that after all that work they are going to ship Nylander and his $7M cap hit out the door for...who? It better be $7M coming back otherwise they did all of these cap gymnastics for nothing. So a deal like Nylander for Myers or Sanheim might make sense from a hockey standpoint, but it doesn't really help the Leafs right now. If they wanted to do that, then they would have done it far earlier, and used the extra cap space to make better signings than junk like Simmonds and Vesey. Philly isn't trading Proorov. The kids don't make sense. Ghost has negative value. So this makes absolutely zero sense to me.
But if Ek is hearing this then I guess its still on the table. - Kooleus

Ek doesn’t report. He throws things into the air to create conversations. This isn’t a rumour site, it’s a hockey conversation site. It has its value but to pretend it’s a rumour site and that we are discussing a real rumour about Nylander being moved for some guy is silly |

Yes, it is a rumor site and I don't think you quite understand what a rumor is by using the phrase "real rumor".

No, I get "real rumours" and I get that they don't have to happen or even be likely to happen to be real rumours. I do believe that they need to be things that at least one real, live person in the real, live hockey world has to be talking to another real, live person in the real, live hockey world about to be a "real rumour"
So you believe that Ek picked up a rumour about Nylander being moved for whoever the (frank) Nylander is supposed to be moved for?
I'm sorry but I just don't believe that anybody is talking about this. I don't believe anybody is talking about really any of the rumours that Ek posts on here. That would make this a not rumour site.
Again, it's fine that this is a not rumour site. Lots of people like coming here to discuss not rumours or to troll or to talk about how Donald Trump is the bestest President ever (for the next few weeks anyway), so good work Ek, well done.

Nylander is a young star with heavy salary hit.
Provy, Sanheim and Myers are untouchable.
I think Ghost + Morin + Frost for Nylander and 2-3 decent draft picks. |

Getting Frost would be great, but the rest is a fullout nothing burger. So the Leafs downgrade from Bill Ny to Frost, but also have to add picks?
That'll be a hard no from the Leafs. |

The Leafs get cap space, a good offensive prospect to salve the loss of Ny and two potential top 6 D men with very different skill sets. Agreed, they're flawed.
What do you think is fair?

Again, Frost is really the only thing of merit in the trade, and he's a huge downgrade from Bill Ny. Ghost sucks major ass and Morin is nothing to the Leafs. So if Frost is the only thing the Leafs would care at all about, outside of minuscule CAP space, where is the incentive?
And then on top they need to add picks? Again, hard no. A very easy hard no.
I've no clue what Philly would need to give but spitballing, it'd be Bill Ny straight up, nothing else, for a top prospect and a 1st, minimum. Doesn't help Philly with CAP space, but Bill Ny is worth a (frank)load more than what's been offered. |

Yea, you don't get it one bit. It is a rumor site. Here is what Ek reported.
"Leafs Still Listening to Offers for Nylander from Flyers (e4)"
That they've talked about a top D man. Nothing more, nothing less.
Your reply here is hysterical. There are how many people in this thread talking about it! Your "standard" on what makes a site a rumor site is asinine. All that is being implied by what Ek posted is that the Flyers and Leafs are having dialog and conversation. Why is that so hard to believe? GM's talk to other GM's all the time! GM's are real live hockey people in the real live hockey world! |

I agree that the Leafs aren't likely to make that deal but I do think that Gostisbehere would do well on the Leafs. Especially on the PP.

The only two d that make sense for Toronto from Philadelphia are Myers or Sanheim, when talking about talent for a guy like Nylander. Philly fans will say no way.....Toronto fans not really knowing the players potential and upside will say no way.....
Both these D would save the Leafs close to 4 million a year on cap space, which really is a huge asset these days. I’m not sure Philly can do either with out making additional moves on d as they are a tad thin back there but there are some free agents still out there. In philly’s case the addition of Nylander would put them up against the cap, so the ability to address the d position would be hindered to say the least.
The only way this happens is if either the Flyers or Leafs have something else up their sleeve.
No way the Leafs trade Nylander for Ghost unless Ghost comes to Toronto with a first rounder. - landros 2
Provorov makes sense for the Leafs. It just doesn't make any sense for Philly.

So, he would be a good fit as a PP specialist on the team that gets just about the fewest pp's in the league?
He was a healthy scratch and has been going downhill for a couple years. He has negative value.

The Flyers (or any team) will want a bargain given the situation.
Nylander will likely be the best player in any trade scenario with any team,
and the Leafs may want too much in return now. And keeping him isn't a bad thing.
But the bill will come due, and something will have to give.
The Leafs look top heavy and thin on D. Just saying.
