I have been chastised on this site for saying "There will be no season until fans are allowed to attend" You people just don't get it. The NHL of all the sports leagues need fans in attendance. If not they cannot pay the players. Owners are not going to throw money away. It is that simple. Major US cities run by liberals will shut everything down again. That ain't the answer. League and players are dumb and dumber. They wasted a big opportunity to restart earlier to finish last season and steal the spotlight and grow the game but spun their wheels. Same thing is happening now. Every day is obviously terrible for the sport and every day everyone loses.

At this point I hope the Owners just pull out for the year and pay the players nothing. Break the CBA due to covid and start from scratch. Let the players get real jobs or fight for ice time in Europe for a slight fraction of what they get from the nhl.

They get paid too much and expecting to get paid in full with little to no revenue is beyond stupid.

I do not understand why there is not more conversation about playing outdoors with fans.

Seems to me;
A) the owners are in a bit of a Catch-22...wanting to play the season with enough games to burn the final year of the TV contract in the US vs absorbing real financial issues in Cash Flow from relatively high Expenses in view of significantly reduced Revenues. The dilemma is real.
B) Players position is largely emotional based on a philosophy of demanding owners stick with a promise made 5 months ago and are blind to significant changes in hopeful assumption of some form of Gate Revenue from limited attendance. The 3rd Wave of the Covid is far worse than originally assumed, players are ignoring that reality.

It is likely that with the administration of vaccines through out 2021, that very significant easing of attendence restrictions enable a very good portion of Gate Revenue return for the '21-'22 season.

So, with the upcoming '20-'21 season the issue; common sense would point to additional, temporary financial concessions by the players in which they recoup their money in later seasons while the Owners struggle to manage through Cash Flow issues.

Renewed Gate Revenues, the Seattle Expansion and new US TV Contract will eliminate the Cash Flow issues for the '21-'22 season, thereby enabling Players to recover any additional concessions granted for '21-'22.

Fehr needs to push his ego aside, grab the "Players are Heroes" mantra by saving the season through additional financial concessions, and squeeze the Owners for some form of other concession on their side.

Get it done boys...Billionaires arguing with Millionaires is a really bad, bad look to people really suffering.

I think Ek could play a role. Because I believe virtual reality goggles are the future for hockey and he was an early adopter. Look, when a producer makes a movie or sitcom there is no live audience. They make their money later. Sports should be no different. Go into an empty arena. Film the show. Then sell tickets afterwards to all the virtual reality goggle fans.

Pay attention to what the guy is saying. It’s a 99% survival rate. Everybody knows somebody who knows somebody. I know people who are going to lose there apartments , houses, jobs etc. I have friends who have kids that are failing virtual school or whatever there calling it. There are businesses in my town that aren’t coming back. Think of the trickle down affect of that. Employees, spouses, kids are suffering. Idiot politicians solutions are making things worse.
