Hains: Tough Weekend at the Office for Caufield
This weekend, RDS treated Habs’ fans to a couple of NCAA games featuring the Canadiens’ 1st round pick in 2019, Cole Caufield. - Karine Hains
I assume you will talk about the World Junior Event? If it happens....
As much as I would like to see Caufield in action, I'm not sure about watching the NCAA. |

In addition, Dylan Holloway has also left the team to go to Team Canada Junior’s training camp.
Saw that bit after. |

Don't want to be a downie downer but the level of play was really unimpressive, like really...expected a bit more from 20 years old guys. Wassenbach is 22? I enjoy the Q and the O better. |

That was a weird weekend. Badgers were missing 4 of their regulars. 3 who are in quarantine because they have in close contact with someone with Covid, and Dylan Holloway who is with Team Canada's WJC selection camp right now.
Badgers were horrible for the two games. The defense can't make a good first pass, and the forwards all played individually. They were way too easy to play against yesterday.
It's going to be a tough season for Caufield, he's not going to have much support. |

yeah...I saw a lot of that on social media. You know, from people who watched him play for the first time, sitting on their couch with greasy orange fingers from eating cheetos.
It's going to take time with him, people will expect him to come into the NHL and score 40 his first season.
And when he doesn't he's going to get called a bust. |

at least he is playing for now, he is one of those guys that need to get a lot stronger and improve his two way game to stick around an NHL team. He doesn't have a decent center with the Badgers, for sure a sniper will suffer in those circumstances. |

If you track his numbers (WJC disaster aside), he's on pace to be the goal scoring version of Johnny Gaudreau. Really can't ask for more.
I get why casual fans would be skeptical of a small player who only has his skills to go on. People love to pump up the grinders etc. because it's easier to think a hit on a guy is worth more than a failed scoring attempt. Reminds me of the hilarious poop about Nylander vs Ritchie at the draft. You'd think a fanbase with Tinordi and McCarron in recent memory would be wary of poopting on skill vs size in the first round. |

It's because this delusional fanbase thinks you can fetch a 6'4'' 220 lbs elite goal scorer with a middle to end of first round pick. |
