That may depend on how many millions an individual has already earned |

every day we hear about it yet there seem to be no actual negotiations going on between players and owners and no progress being done. if there isn't an official resolution this week my guess is the alleged January start won't be happening

Yeah I get it but everything is relative right? If you've earned $50 m in your career and done well investing and in real estate, the idea of playing for less than you feel you're worth in an incredibly physical game that can have a major impact on your post playing career maybe you decide differently. The NFL has had a lot of early retirements, including all pro players, who probably could earn $10s of millions more for that reason.
There one was a time I'd work weekends for $15 an hour cash. No chance I'd even consider that now. Everything is relative |

players most likely want to get concessions from the league, most likely on ads on jerseys and other forms of revenue generation where they can earn more money. I fully expect to see ads on jersey sooner than later. Not the European style, more like the NBA with one sponsor with a small logo on the jerseys. Who will be the sponsor for the Habs? I say Bell |

Almost like the phony January start date is a pressure tactic by ownership to make the players look bad/gain public sentiment against the spoiled millionaires playing a kids game and take the eyes off ownership. Almost like that |

January was the deadline for a full season but it looks like it will be a shortened season now with no fans. The league gets all the expenses with players salary but none of the revenues from fans attending (ticket sales, food/drink concessions..)
They will come to agreement in the next week or two IMO. |

Another undersized forward, more of a playmaker than a goal scorer.
What's fun with him is that they will have time to see him develop before making a decision.
Committed to Harvard next season - stinger67

yeah but I'm sure a lot of fans are neither on the players' nor the owners' side, they're just on the "get your poop together and let's play some god damn hockey" side |

I've seen this game before and the way it plays out the majority of fans eventually blame the players. No idea why but it seems to happen every damn time. Gary takes all the arrows and owners come off looking fine |

perhaps this time around will be different though, since an agreement was reached only a few months ago and now it's the owners that are wanting to come back on it

I've read that 78% of NFL players declare bankruptucy 5 years after retiring. Those guys don't live in a semi-detached house in Laval and the misses doesn't shop at Winner's.
Alot of them have a train of life that goes with their level of income and losing an entire year of salary isn't an option |

NFL owners know this too when they negotiate. It's why they are adding more playoffs and more regular season games. Lunch pale guys will make more, it gives more to pension and yada yada. Guys earning $30m plus argue it's a bad deal (which it is but good enough for the bottom 2/3 of the players to not miss games). No good answer. That said to counter your argument I'd point out the average NFL player makes $30k a MONTH in pension and next year that moves to $46k a MONTH. It's why OJ moved to Florida ( a state lawsuits can't touch your pension) and why he isn't and never will be "broke" |

According to Sports Illustrated, 78% of NFL players who are retired for only two years file for bankruptcy, and after five years of retirement, 60% of NBA players suffer the same fate. According to a study in the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) as well, close to 16% of the NFL players in the study that were drafted between 1996 to 2003 also filed for bankruptcy within just 12 years of retirement. |

I'm no expert on the NFL, but I think the average career lenght is 5 years, no? and contracts are not guaranteed. can't really compare with the NHL imo. |

The NFL also has had guys shoot themselves in the Richard, murder people and a slew of other things where they have no other country to flee to (Voynov). |

Could be good for him, he's going to have to become a more complete player just not a one-dimensional sniper. Could improve his D play and playmaking skills - Fredo
I agree, but still...it's going to be tough. He currently plays with his brother Brock and Linus Weissbach who are both 5'9''.
That's worse than the Habs' Smurf line (Bure-Koivu-Petrov) |

we've seen sooo many players score ton of goals in junior or in the AHL but not able to do so in the NHL. I'll wait and see. I hope he succeeds, but I'll wait.

At least Bure-Koivu-Petrov had talent.
Caufield is all alone out there. Every chance he gets is created by.... well himself.

His brother has not the same talent obviously, and Weissbach...the guy has no vision.
Caufield was trying to do too much on his own...looked frustrated at times this weekend. |
