I thought he was still a RW at that point in time? Either way, a one-of-a-kind player with a style likely never replicated. Unless Brent Burns and Ryan Reaves somehow conceive a child.

He never played wing in Atlanta.

He never played wing in Atlanta. I’m like 70% he didn’t really play wing in Chicago, outside of that Cup run.

I'm 100% sure he didn't play wing last season.

He may have put in a lot of effort for the Jets before, but for not declaring he was not going to play earlier last season, I shall not forget or forgive.

Oh he may have screwed the Jets royally, but he also left millions of $$$ on the table. Too bad! He is a "hall of shamer" in my books!

I didn't like the spot it left the Jets in either but am getting a little philosophical about it now.

It was Buff being Buff and the same character that we loved to see on the ice was reflected in the apparently almost whimsical nature of his retirement. It was all part of the package. Leaving millions on the table almost makes me think he was playing for the love of the game. I am and will remain a Byfuglien fan.

This organization is somewhat shifty. With the way things have been going, I don’t blame Buff at all.

Actually, as much as I’d rather still have him around, I’m grateful he saved us from any of Myers, Chairot, and Tanev

Haha. Who is the softest player on the Jets? Hate is a strong word, but when Laine is on the ice, and the jets are protecting a lead, i do cringe.

This is correct, but not necessarily his fault. He’s just not big or particularly strong. His mobility should solve almost all of his potential issues, but his lack of awareness and the Jets slow, disjointed systems make him a liability along the walls

Not Buff's fault that he either was not too bright or got bad advice. He wound up screwing himself out of a lot of money and he wound up screwing up the Jets.
Jets did everything by the book.

Eh. I don’t think he cares so much about the money. Byfuglien was never gonna be the bog standard “play full length of current contract, announce intention of formal retirement before the last season begins, then return for the number retirement before game 1 of the next season”. That just wasn’t gonna happen. Dude doesn’t want the attention, and has always just been Buff doing Buff things

Byfuglien was drafted as a defencemen but played as a winger the 2010 season with the Hawks. Claude Noelle had moved Byfuglien from defense back to forward. Maurice decided to move him back to defense permanently in the 2014/2015 season when Enstrom and Bogosian both went down to injury.

At least, that's what I remember about the whole situation.
