Physically, taking a year off at my age sets me back.

Will all the time off affect ovi"s pursuit of Gretzkys scoring record or will it benefit him with more rest

Marner sucked as much as nylander did during the play-ins.

Marner is making 4million more then nylander.

Nylander had a better regular season compared to marner if your talking dollars to dollars.

Marner was complete poop during the play-ins and will be better next year I’m sure. Thinking these guys don’t get intimidated by their giant contracts and learning to play with them is an understatement. Nylander sucked when he got his. Marner sucked when he got his.

Matthews is the only true beast on this team and I think he should’ve been named captain.

- bryant

I'm old school, but I don't think any guy under the age of about 26 should be named captain of any NHL team, and that's X3jillion for the Leafs and Habs.

Nylander saw zero d-zone draws.

Both put up 4 pts.

Nylander -3
Marner -1

But go off...

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Not sure how this helps your point.

4pts each. 4 million dollar difference and your talking about d-zone draws?

I watched marner throw the puck into an empty corner in the dying seconds of a playoff game when they were losing.

Cause you’re not very smart.

Marner and Matthews faced CLB’s best. Keefe wouldn’t dare put Nylander out there in the defensive zone because he’s a disaster defensively.

As stated above, only Matthews stood out in the play-in round.. For whatever reason, Marner didn't play well in any of the 5 games.. I don't know what it was, but he wasn't impressive at all and made his fair share of mistakes

- PatC80

Like he said himself; he wasn't engaged.

Which is probably the worst thing he could've said, really.

Rielly was a good option too. Dubas said he came forward to Keefe and told him Barrie should take his spot on pp1 to get his confidence up. He does sound like a good leader.

I just think Matthews picks the team up and puts them on his back. If Rielly could do that from a defensive point of view I would agree. I just think is a good person, but Matthews seems to be able to set the tone on the ice.

- bryant

I don't disagree about Matthews. He'd have been a great choice.

I do think that this past season, with Rielly playing hurt all season, would've been taken badly by a big portion of the fanbase (if he had gotten the C). So in a way, it's a good thing he didn't get it.

I’d agree but when was the last time the leafs had a player like Matthews?

He seems to thrive under the spotlight.

When a player says that they want to be the best, they need to be able to back it up.. Matthews can let his play do all the talking

Or perhaps he wanted marner and Matthews out there....because they’re making 23 million between them.

No one is saying nylander is better then marner, but the 4 million dollar gap makes a difference.

Still had a modified softball season this past summer.
so glad we were able to, I totally needed it.
Missed playing sports....missed hanging out for a beer.

It was great even if it was only 6 weeks, once a week.

- Fakepartofme

I rode my bike past the Lion’s Ball park’s off Thompson numerous times and I cried a bit each time.

That’s what I love about golf. Get together with your buddies twice a week, have a couple beers and walk the course. Even if I play terrible it’s my outlet and gets me in a good mood.

I liked golf...till I got the yips a few years ago. Drank too much each and every round I played.

As much as I miss playing sports, I think I miss going to the Pub and having 7 pints and 3 lbs of wings more

oh for sure... It's one thing to say I struggled and never really could get it going, but to come out and say; "I wasn't engaged" really made it sound like he didn't care

Knowing Ovi... he’ll probably be in the absolute best shape he’s ever been, and this lay off just extended his career by 3 more years.

You would have had to name him captain while Underweargate was unfolding.

It would not have been a good scene.

If you only play once a month or 3-4 times a year, you play just enough to hate it.

We play twice a week with usually a beer or 2 and it’s great.

We have 1 tourney a year that we travel to and get a dd and drink a ton. It’s the best tournament of the year and we suck ass. If we ever went sober we might actually win the damn thing but we choose to try and beat everyone completely crushed. It hasn’t worked yet, surprisingly.

True. As crazy as 2020 has been I already forgot about that.
