I think Hoffman is more of a longer term solution for Pearson; Pod and Hog could still push the next couple years. - Bourketuzzi

Let Boston sign Hoffman.
Then just sign Haula instead.
Since the Oilers desperately want Haula to flip him to Vegas for MAF, you can see if you can dump Eriksson with Haula to Edmonton.

Rather get Granlund for cheaper than signing a 1 dimensional PP Hoffman.
Reality is Eriksson is staying put. Buyout next year. |

I don't know what some of you are talking about needed space for Petersson and Hughes for if you're signing Hoffman. After his girlfriend runs those two out of town you won't have any cap problems whatsoever. bonus: you don't need to buy out Eriksson! |

While it is easy to say this is a non-starter, and I also disagree that Van should not be considering Hoffman for 3 years, a thought comes to mind about L Eriksson and his value.
If you take away the name and contract value, you end up with a player who over the last three years has averaged about 10 minutes ice time per game, has played on all 4 lines and in all situations, and has averaged .35 points per game.
These aren't earth shattering numbers, we are definitely talking about a depth player here. A depth player mind you who has stuck around in this league, had the character to take his situation in stride and still be a good team mate and player when called upon.
I wonder what that depth player could be worth on the open market?
The reason for that last question is, Eriksson is owed about 1 million this season (after his bonus is paid) and 4 million next. Sure his cap hit is 6 million per season but, real cash is significantly lower.
Is Eriksson a 2.5 million for this year and next player? Maybe? and I tend to think this is the best sales angle for him, that his actual cash owed is closer to his real value. I agree that, if Eriksson was signing a deal today it would be for the 1 million range, but that that has more to do with the flat cap in this moment.
So all that said, here is the trade:
To Vancouver
Ryan Kesler LTIR
To Anaheim
Louie Eriksson
The details would be either Vancouver retaining up to 2 million from Eriksson or taking another roster player back with up to 2 million in Salary. This gives Vancouver enough guaranteed cap space via LTIR to cover another signing (like Hoffman). If Ferland is going on LTIR as well, it gives the Canucks just over 10 million in LTIR to work with.

Next time Loui crosses the border, make sure there's cocaine in the car. Not a lot, just enough to get an overnight, then hit him with the Mike Richards treatment.
Sign Hoffman, done. |

When it was reported that a Hoffman signing was imminent and that Vancouver was one of like 8 teams chasing him, I specifically said they would first need to move Eriksson. Now a month later it's a GM challenge. Am I a source? |

Get ready for the Kovalchuk sweepstakes part 20! You just know Ek has this one waiting in the chamber! Locked and loaded! |

You may be Eklunds source but Canucks are not signing Hoffman even if he is a power forward. |

I think it really depends on whether Kovy and Malkin want to play together, and which one of them is going to be The Man.
