I'm not. I'm saying I'd have rather have traded the hypothetical pick 8 for Monahan (long term solution) than get a stop gap in Staal because odds are we aren't good enough again - sbroads24
CGY didn’t trade Monahan though
Might as well be mad we didn’t get Couturier, or Crosby, or Scheifele, etc |

Yawn
You’re upset we didn’t “do more” when you’ve got no clue if “more” could’ve been done
Have we seen a bunch of big trades happen?
Have we seen ANY??? |

IMO that is bad asset management. I doubt the cost would have been limited to 8th, and his Cap hit is $3.1m therefore would have jeopardized the addion of Hall. Lastly, Cozens is your 2C in as little as 56 games from now.
Too much cost for 56 games. |

for all we know, cozens will come in like a bull in a china shop, take that second line center and staal is either playing on his wing or third line center |

I regret getting back into this specific conversation because of the people that are diehards on both sides of the argument. But I'mma throw this out there.
In a vacuum. Leave out all the factors of reality, fits, talent etc.
Would you, or anyone trade 2020 8th OA for Sean Monahan. Just that trade. Nothing else involved, no salary retention, nothing. Keep in mind, this trade will occur prior to the arrival of Eric Staal.

I hope so, just following Dach's development of last year would be perfect...3RW -> 3C -> 2C |

If we're 30, 40 games in and the coaches are starting to question whether Staal or Cozens should be playing 2C, because he's playing well above expectations, it will be an incredibly great problem to have. It will mean KA has done his job effectively, by providing a highly capable one year stop gap. |

I was all for that. So sick of picking 8th
Eichel is going to need to throw for 5000 yards and Hall is going to have to have 1500 yards receiving this year to neutralize the run defense of the Islanders |

Honestly, I'd think about it, but yes.
I wouldn't do it with an eye for the longterm, rather 2 years max depending on Cozens development ... then trade him out to fill another more immediate need.

Hall + Staal is just so much better than Monahan
Plus we’d lose the good assets it would’ve taken to get Monahan |

I agree.
Quinn panning out and being a top 6 forward for the next 10 years trumps the 2C that can’t defend if his life depended on it.
Eye test and analytics favour Staal over Monahan for this season, with the only criticism being ageism bias.

You are, not me. I like the Staal move. I would have done Monahan for 8 also as presented in the hypothetical |

We FINALLY got a decent 2C replacement,
and some ppl are still pouting
Even though we got him for basically nothing
We sign Hall, an almost unbelievable move, and it’s still crybaby bullsh!t bc Risto is still on the roster
Some ppl just need to wallow in the misery i suppose |
