There was mention of Raffy - if he showed well and was a viable, cost controlled dman moving forward. Basically saying the Canucks are in great shape for the expansion draft as several potential and existing players were exempt, and others too risky to take.

We talked about that on here a month or 2 ago, and came to the same conclusion and we are just a bunch of idiots, who like to argue about anything and everything.

Edit: not sure if Rafferty is eligible to be taken, due to games played etc

Guessing, you are wrong, I had to cheat to get that line up.

There will be trades though.

I think the eligibility rules are not that Seattle couldn’t choose him. It’s more about making sure you have players who are available who a) have real NHL game experience (played in at least 40 game’s previous season) and b) are under contract. Even if he doesn’t get into enough games they could take him, or Cole Lind or Jonah Gadjovic or whoever. If Rafferty gets into enough games they could protect Myers (if they wanted) to keep the more experienced player.

Edit - apparently the penalty for not having players available that meet the criteria is you lose your 1st round pick.

There are a few teams in the same boat as Canucks and I believe it is a big reason why they really need to have a season this year.
Even Loui doesn't qualify yet

Well then it's Beagle or Edler.

Going throw the list, it looks like they will have a lot more to choose from than Vegas did.

Edler is a UFA so even he doesn't qualify, as you know, although they could sign him and that would count as player taken.

You should go see the check mark beside his name that says he qualifies.

All players who are not under contract in 2020-21 are currently assumed to be extended until the end of that season

I'm pretty sure they're allowed to take UFAs, doesn't matter if they sign them or not.

Vegas took a kid from Carolina who was a pending UFA, just to say they took someone, and keep contract spots open for the July 1 market

Cant remember the name. Drance mentioned it when talking about teams who won the last expansion draft.

I worded that poorly. Should have said Edler doesn't qualify as a player that counts as an exposed player, as he isn't under contract.

Those were some of their first signings.

There really isn't any teams with too many glaring need to trade away to lose something to valuable, but looking at last time, it would have been better to just take a player instead of giving up 2 or 3 and a draft pick.

Not having a season at all would really hurt Seattle expansion.

I assume they had to pay the $650m once approved, but I don’t know.

The NBA will be financially assisting each of its teams to the tune of $30MM this season, according to a report from John Lombardo in the Sports Business Journal. The report indicates that the league will issue cash payments to their teams, and Emily Kaplan of ESPN tweets that the NHL is working on a similar plan.

Though it’s not clear what amount the NHL would distribute, it obviously will be trying to get all 32 teams through the current financial climate without any major issues. That 32nd team, Seattle, is basically doing the same thing as the league, splitting a $650MM expansion fee between every team except the Vegas Golden Knights (who will be left out of the expansion draft).

Speaking of Seattle, The Athletic has been releasing their fifth mock draft today, examining each team specifically and what they might give up to the expansion franchise.

Who's got the athletic?

Uffe Bodin - "Hoglander is not ready for the NHL yet. He is turning into a really nice player. He is only 19. He is a smallish player and needs time to adapt, but he is making progress... The best thing for him is to play another year in Sweden."

Uffe Bodin on Hoglander - "His skill set is very good. He is obviously one of the most entertaining players in the SHL right now, you never know what to expect... He can blow your mind... It's about finding consistency and balance."

Uffe Bodin - "With young players in the SHL you want to see them in a leading role before they head over [to the NHL]. It's really hard to make the transition."

Well poor Vantel chased from his throne atop Carols blog. Must be humbling to fall that far. Forced to comment on Eklunds thread just to be heard.
You guys should feel bad.
