ZERO chance the Leafs trade for Subban. He’s it the player he used to be and he’s a defensive liability. We don’t need a 1 dimensional player like that. - James-TFS
I dont think the leafs can make it work after signing Brodie. I was just playing devils advocate... from the leafs perspective, its about the only way it works, from jerseys perspective, im sure they will want something else...

Even if NJ retained 50% of PK's salary, what is the draw? He was absolutely terrible last season and, if you have any visions of him AT LEAST bringing the heat on the PP from the point, you're deluding yourself. I can count on 1 hand the number of times he found himself in a good shooting position and, even when he did for some unknown reason he wouldn't let it rip. Coming from a NJ fan that was over the moon excited when we landed PK, I'll spare you the torment that I faced. Just don't. The guy is done. - WayneZ
PK has overplayed his hand by way of his off ice exposure. Fair or not, his commitment level has been and continues to be questioned based on recent results. I have no doubt he would like to finish his career in his hometown like so many before him but I don't see a fit by way of cap space and ice time for a player like this. Sorry but PK's future in Toronto is in front of a microphone and make no mistake it will be a terrific career after hockey because he is a natural. |

Getting rid of a declining asset who makes waaaaaaaay too much actual cash. - Atomic Wedgie
Holy crap he has a $6M signing bonus. Without that I'd say NJ wouldn't care so much. But with it he's paid even if season is canceled?

In case y'all weren't aware of it yet. These are the articles that show proof to how EK does nothing more than make up BS for clicks.
The off season is currently dead. Every legitimate insider is talking about how the league is absolutely quiet. And yet EK puts out an article about a trade that "his sources" AKA random people he discusses hockey about, are saying could happen.
Y'all must be as bored as I am, looking to talk hockey anywhere you can.
If any GM is seriously considering PK Subban, it's because they are completely incompetent as a GM and don't actually deserve to be one. I mean look at the state of the organization that has him.
When PK got drafter he was a defensive liability whose defensive shortcomings were overlooked because he could produce points, made big hits, played physical and with the hopes that he could be coached into making better defensive choices. Through the years his character has shown that he has refused to listen to anyone about those defensive decisions and he is too focused with trying to be a flashy, attention seeking star to be a good hockey player and his lack of focus on hockey has him now being nothing more than an over-priced defensive liability.
If every GM in the NHL were smart, competent GMs, he would have been cut loose from the NHL in order to be the reality star he clearly wants to be. |

NBA Gives teams Money to Survive.
The NBA has given each of their teams $30M to help them with their return to play. Could the NHL follow suit?
How could the NHL have any money saved up for something like this? Wouldn’t Jeremy Jacobs have already figured out some way to have taken it from them while telling everyone how poor he is. |

I know on this site we rip players but I hate when they're african american or african canadian. You guys wouldn't want to see me on the biggest stage you'd be calling me everything but a child of God 😂 |

As a Devil's Fan, PK is a Godsend to the communities he plays in. He does tons for local charities. He is a very positive player, never has anything bad to say about anything or anyone. Never once heard a negative thing come out of his mouth. But as a player, his better days a far behind. He no longer has any grace on the ice, kinda skates like a three legged Rhino slipping in the mud, very little finesse, out of position most times. His goals of late look more like pure luck and less on skill. I have never been a fan of his contract, he is way too over paid. If Fitzy can unload 1/2 of that I would be happy. I don't see any team taking a chance on him even at half off. I think Fitzy will move him and a pick to the Krakken during the expansion draft. But if the leaf's want him...go for it. Fitzy should throw in a bag of used pucks and spare parts for a Zamboni to sweeten the deal |

There is no reason to pay someone to take PK off our hands. It literally accomplishes nothing. We don't need the cap space this year or next. We have the most in the league right now. If we did move PK we'd likely have to retain half his salary and take back a player to make it work for many teams. So any savings are likely to be miniscule and irrelevant. Nobody is going to send you a good asset back.
Then we have a hole in an already terrible defense. We don't have legit D prospects that need the ice time. Our big defensive acquisition this year (Ryan Murray)has a history of back problems and missing games.
The best thing to do is ride out the contract. Hope Ruff can help him rebound offensively, but regardless it does not need to be dealt with. There is no reason to throw out assets to move him. That's just a waste. Enjoy the community work and fun quotes. Marvel at Lindsey Vonn when she shows up and enjoy some Pastrami at Hobby's Deli. Let PK worry about PK. |

The Devils would have to eat a BIG chunk of that $9M AAV since the Leafs are currently maxed out in CAP space.
What's in it for the Devils? - Nasty_Duck
Absolutely nothing. Not sure if Subban has any trade value even at 50% retained. He was our worst RD last season, even Dakota Mermis was a better option. But if someone wants him, I am just fine with that! |

I like the Murray pickup. It was similar to the Josh Anderson trade, only we didn't give up a top 3 forward and then ink him to a massive 7 year deal. Haha. It is a low risk option for a guy who is a difference maker when he's on the ice. With Bahl, Shak, Smith, Walsh all in the striking distance of the NHL, a short term, effective guy like Murray makes sense. He cost only a 5th rd selection, and if he can stay healthy, could fetch a solid return at the deadline. |

He will be a great teammate and work hard for NJD ....
NJ has the cap space for him ... He is not going anywhere.

I was one fan that was really happy to see PK go to the Preds for Webber. PK was more about becoming a “Brand” than being a player(and succeeded in Montrèal which is why they signed him to a ridiculous contract) He never, and let me repeat that, never made any of his teammates better. He worked on his hype and brand, Toronto definitely deserves him. |

PK is a shell of his former self as a player. No one is going to resurrect him in becoming the player he once was. He is focused on Self promotion and fine tuning his media appearance for broadcasting. I hope he turns it around, but I am realistic that it wont happen. The Devils would benefit dumping his salary now while you can in the flat cap era that is here now. It will be needed sooner then people realize - you have to extend so many players shortly who on their Entry Level contracts. Plenty of cap space is available is a lie.....cap space can be an issue very quickly. So many teams are forced to trade good assets due to lousy cap management |

If that's the case who would trade for him? if he had one bad year you must think he has some left in the tank...so who would you offer for him? a 2nd or 3rd rounder? a first rounder? lets see how much value you put in your statement

We're not allowed to rip on Subban because he's black? THAT'S racist. We poop on everyone equally here on Hockeybuzz.
We don't pick on Subban because he's black. We pick on him because he's an overpaid, bum hole, locker room cancer. |

I am getting a bit tired of the narrative that just b/c he has a presence on social media and is inclined to promote himself, that it means he is not working hard, training or giving every effort to be his best on ice. It literally takes a matter of minutes to post on instagram. and more often than not, he is posting workouts. Just b/c he is training with his famous girlfriend (who is also a world-class athlete), the negative response by some is absurd. Is he as good as when he signed this contract, no... but he certainly hasn't just decided he wants his next job to be at NBC Sports. He will put every effort possible to get another contract, which means his on ice performance needs to improve. I am sure he isn't sacrificing the millions on the table all so he can get to 1M followers on Insta! Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter, Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe & Shaq endorsed anything under the sun! Didn't take away from their performance. I doubt he will every contend for the Norris again, but let's hope Ruff can make turn it around a bit and get him back to a valuable asset for the '22 trade deadline.
And our cap is fine. His $9M is off in 2 years. As is Zajac's big # and Crawford's. Cammalleri and Miles will be off too.

He had a pretty legit drop off in his last year in Nashville and then the stinker in Newark. So it depends on how you want to look at it. |
