Thinking for a player who has 71 NHL games played getting that much seems ridiculous but after going to compare this contract. There are quite a few names over the years that have the same sort of deal.
This place would go (frank)en ape poop crazy if OJ played this entire season and go a contract in the 2 millions plus next year. There would be riots.

It depends on how OJ plays and what he brings skill wise. Benn is getting 2 mil per to put up similar numbers to Phillipe Myers. There doesn't seem to be a lot of complaints about that.
I'm down for a hockey related riot though. It's been too long

I am good with that, let's see what these kids have. - Reubenkincade
Stoked to see what they got too.
Especially OJ and Boner.
I think we'll get to see at least 3 of them play some significant amount of game (due to injuries).

Analyzing the pros and cons of Olli Juolevi's game with input from a rival NHL scout and why the #Canucks are confident that he's ready for the NHL:

I want to say I like what Cam Robinson says about players but his speed and skill bias is so much, he almost forgets all other factors it seems like.
He even admits he has a speed and skill bias. Its just such a bias. - manvanfan
It says that his skill set is better suited to the NHL than the AHL because there’s more structure, although, his skating is a concern, something he needs to work on. See an snippet from the article below.
“In essence, Benning believes that Juolevi’s skillset translates better in the NHL than the AHL. That once he adjusts to the increased pace and physicality of the NHL, he’ll find it easier to apply his tools.
This idea sounds great in theory, but does it actually hold merit in reality? The Athletic reached out to a rival NHL team’s scout for a different perspective on the matter.
“It’s very legitimate. (The) AHL can be a tougher league to play in for some because players aren’t always where they’re supposed to be, there are broken plays throughout the ice, and it’s scrambled eggs hockey a lot of times,” said the scout. “For players with hockey sense that know the game, they won’t always stand out in the American League.”
This perspective doesn’t tell the whole story, though. The organized systems and breakouts of the NHL will help Juolevi apply his strengths, yes, but the increased speed of play could also expose his weaknesses.
“It’s a legitimate argument but I’m not sure it addresses the real issues with Juolevi,” said the scout.
Mobility was highlighted as a top concern by this scout and many other evaluators in the industry. Juolevi doesn’t pivot well when defending the rush, which causes problems against faster players that can dart past him if he isn’t holding a tight gap. He does make up for this lack of agility in some situations with smart reads to aggressively pinch and gap up in the neutral zone before the play has developed, but that isn’t always possible. That can lead to defensive breakdowns such as the one below.”

I still think that JB will bring in another D.
2 rookie D men and 3/6 kids (including Hughes) is playing with fire imo. - dbot
Bruins with Carlo McAvoy and Grzelcyk
Tampa with Sergachev and Cernak
Flyers with Provorov, Sanheim and Myers all teams that have key defensemen that started within a year of each other.
These were just the 1st 3 teams I thought about, I don't think those teams, nor the fans are concerned.

Wonder what D is going to be like without Chara on the first pair and Krug on the second
