I looked up his interview from 4 days ago. He said the Jets defense was "middle of the pack, in giving up lateral chances"

*blinks slowly* How oddly specific, especially for praising mediocrity.

BW, I love how you are so good at explaining advanced stats. You are my new go to poster for them.

I actually did know the name existed until today.

What I found though was there's an area from the top of the faceoff circle to the goalline. When the puck moves from one side of the goal to the other in that area, its a lateral chance.

Basically what the Jets try to do on the pp with Wheeler to Laine

This actually does make a lot of sense. The Jets D plays very “safe”, they tend to collapse to the slot. The unfortunate side effect of this is that the cross-seam passes not happening as often doesn’t really matter, the opposing forwards have a straight line at the net, and lots of space to pelt Hellebuyck and pounce on rebounds

before we guess who plays on D this year it is extremely important to remember the expansion draft. its not just about having x amount players under contract to expose, those players have to play x amount of games in the NHL. so what does this mean.....well as far as I know (could be wrong) it means Beaulieu and niku have to play in the lineup x amount of games this year to hit that criteria and therefore have the jets meeting that criteria

Copy and pasted this from CapFriendly:

Minimum Exposure Requirements

Teams must expose a minimum number of players that meet the following criteria for selection in the upcoming Expansion Draft:

Position#Criteria-
Forwards: 2 under contract in 2021-22, AND played in 40 or more NHL games last season, OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the last two seasons
Defense: 1 under contract in 2021-22, AND played in 40 or more NHL games last season, OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the last two seasons
Goalies: 1 under contract in 2021-22, OR who’s contract is expiring & is an RFA in 2020-21

Hope that helps, not sure if this season being shortened is going to have any effect on games played criteria for the various positions, don't think it will though.

I’ve watched that Kyle Connor top 10 video the NHL put out like 30 times. Pure electricity. Straight into my veins.

Just wanted you guys to know I’m making an effort to be less depressed and/or cynical heading into this season.

Also, love that Laine is the setup man in like half the clips.

Thank you,
I do think they have pro rated some of those numbers with the season being shortened. Just like Perfetti can only play in 6 or 7 games now not ten before he burns a year.

The Jets currently don’t meet these requirements on D so they will have to have either Beaulieu or Niku play enough games to qualify them as someone they have to expose.

Sorry I should have said the Jets don’t have someone they would want to expose on D who meets these requirements. I
Assuming the plan would be to keep Demelo and Morrisey 😃

Just read this

With a shortened 56 game schedule those numbers have been altered.

The 40 game requirement for the 20/21 season has now become 27 games
The 70+ game requirement has become 54GP

So Beaulieu has to play at least 14 games and Niku 27 for one of them to be the guy we qualify on D

Beaulieu would need to get into 32 games to qualify, doubt Niku is going to get into enough games to meet the requirement, that is without the numbers being lowered due to the shortened season though.

I like lowry so I am not debating him, but this is such a useless micro stat what exactly are you trying to prove with this? it has Hoffman at the top who is arguable one the leagues worst defensive player. Lowry averages 10 goals a year, is this saying after 7 seasons he is all of sudden go to change that? there are so many holes in "above replacement" specifically those for "goals" and not "wins" type stats its ridiculous people are still pushing them without at least saying they continue to be a work in process. I have a lot more respect for those that admit their shortcomings with these and then explain how they are working to improve them.
