And the Riv a couple blocks up on Broadway. Used to be on Argyle quite a bit for one job. Was a big part of my territory.
I just thought the Pho places were funny like they were battling it out for Yellow Pages positioning.
Tank was ok but there was a place across from Hon Kee I liked better but can’t recall the name.
Also can’t remember the name of the place where Argyle ended across the street on Broadway that had awesome BBQ Pork Bahn Mi.
Edit -wonder if Ogi makes Bahn Mi. - HawkintheD
The bahn mi place is probably BaLe. They make homemade bread rolls, banh mi sandwiches, other Vietnamese treats, drinks, etc. I think there are BaLe's in other parts of the country like California and Hawaii.
When I lived in Argyle, it was so easy to get a meal for like $4. My wife and I did that all the time given our crazy hours at our work places.
Andersonville was close by, too, so that was fun to go out to eat there on weekends when we had more time.
My father in law loved eating at Hopleaf on Clark Street. Extensive beer collection. Great food. |

We must live in interesting times. Stan, who has been roasted on this board for years, has been given the keys to the car; and we're talking about Asian Cuisine? C'mon man.
Meanwhile, JJ, Edzo, and Mr. Ricochet are doing extra deadlifts over Zoom to calm their anger.... |

The Hawks finally sorted out their president situation, they’ll have two plus a CEO.
Danny Wirtz remains CEO, Stan is President of Hockey Operations and GM (don’t everyone cheer at once) while Jamie Faulkner is President of Business Operations. - DarthKane
So no playoffs or Stanley cups in the fore seeable future with bowman in full control. |

Some rumblings that opening night for the NHL will feature a triple header including the Lightning raising their Stanley Cup banners as host to the Blackhawks. |

Is January 13 still the target date for opening night for the nhl? |
|

Yeah, it's Hon-Kee. I used to live a block away. That place was a dump but food was good. Sun-Wah, too. Great place to get roast duck.
Can't go wrong with all of those Pho ### places. Better than Tank Noodle at the corner of Broadway and Argyle.
Then there's the Aragon Ballroom for concerts down on Lawrence. - Theo Fox
Aragon -> Cheetah -> Aragon - saw many concerts there, some of which I even remember. |

January 13 is the date stated the most but other dates have been thrown around lately like January 16 and even February 1. |

The Hopleaf used to be my dad's "shot and a beer" bar before the guy he sold it to turned it into the bistro it is today. The name was Clark Foster Liquors, but it was known as Hans'. 5148 N. Clark St. Ph: Edgewater 4-9851. Weird how I can remember the phone number from 40 years ago and can't remember if I took my pills today. An old Swede tavern in Andersonville. He bought the bar after coming back from Korea in 1953. I tended bar there as a second job from about '74 - '79. Used to handle the book on football Sundays - it was probably what steered me clear of ever getting hooked on gambling seeing some guys drop their entire paycheck on losing bets.
There's a trip down memory lane. |

You can pretty much argue that the next decade will be similar to the same ten years from 97-to 2007- you’ll have a few players that can do there thing like Kaner- a la Tony Amonte and not much else... I have no faith in Blowman as a GM let alone President of hockey operations... this franchise will now be driven into the ground..
Same old story Rocky turning into his old man Dollar Bill... the Blackhawks and the Bears are the same— the franchises need to be sold and actually get competent people in the front office |

Maybe, maybe not. They can't spend more than the cap so no he's not like his father. I understand it's difficult to understand, because of the lack of them in Chicago, that championships have cycles. We are in the middle of one. To sustain championships year after year is impossible.
I like the direction they are going in and really all you can do is put your team in a position to win a championship, nothing is guaranteed, a lucky bounce here or there can be all the difference in a tight series.

Other than Dach do the Hawks have any other center prospects that look like legit 1 or 2C's?
Cause if not then why do I see so many Hawks fans wanting to trade Strome? He's young enough to fit with this rebuild which is probably gonna be more of a retool if anything and Toews is gonna be 33 in 5 months, time is catching up to him.
Center is one of the hardest positions to fill, I think the Hawks should hang onto Strome not trade him. |

Tallon is available. He for sure will fix the goaltending dilemma. He has signed Bobrovsky, Reiner, Huet Khabibulin as FA during his GM tenure’s. In all seriousness, whom do you think will do a better job (of those that are available)? |

I get your point but it doesn’t hurt to have a fresh set of eyes revamp the organization is all I’m saying... granted yes gm’s just like players in all lines of sports can be s***** but a change of scenery and a new perspective on the situation doesn’t hurt |

In short, no. Dach and Strome as the top 6 centers would be great. The issue is the Hawks have three top 6 centers when you count Toews.
It's unknown how much longer he can sustain the elevated level of play he has shown the past two seasons after some started to write him off.
Toews could start the decline this season or next year or have could be just as solid in that same time span.
If it's the latter, can the Hawks afford to keep Strome (or Dach) as 3C for a few seasons or will that stunt their growth?
I'm all for retaining Strome as long as he has a role to play that maximizes his strengths while also not being a liability. |

If Bill was still around the Hawks would of never signed Hossa or buried Huets contract, never, his winning teams were really good but he'd never ever ever get that extra piece the Hawks needed. I also doubt Savard would of ever been replaced |

Thank, Tony.
A fully recovery from the ankle injury is definitely a factor that can help restore his game so he can get back to higher offensive output and even another level on the hustle meter. - Theo Fox
Wanted to add my thanks for these rapid-fire interesting blogs during the downtime that we have now.
I am the anti-expert about players and what they might do. Never played, never even learned to skate. But about Strome --
Strome looked to me like he was hurt pretty badly during the season. If he scored or had the primary assist on a goal he really did not celebrate but was grimacing during the celebration. Never saw him really smile or enjoy the goal.
Players play through and I think that is what he was doing; maybe like Toews and Seabrook during recent seasons. Bring him back; he will be back to what he was when he came over from Arizona. Always a place for a guy like that.

Hopleaf was great especially for steak frites. If you travelled further west there was an awesome Korean BBQ, San Soo Gab San.
And you are correct, Bale` was the name of the place that did Bahn Mi and baked their own fresh bread, which was a big part of it. |
