I get your point but it doesn’t hurt to have a fresh set of eyes revamp the organization is all I’m saying... granted yes gm’s just like players in all lines of sports can be s***** but a change of scenery and a new perspective on the situation doesn’t hurt - bigfly46
Isn’t that why Danny Wirtz was brought in?

We must live in interesting times. Stan, who has been roasted on this board for years, has been given the keys to the car; and we're talking about Asian Cuisine? C'mon man.
Meanwhile, JJ, Edzo, and Mr. Ricochet are doing extra deadlifts over Zoom to calm their anger.... - mohel
There's no amount of deadlifts that can quell that type of anger.
When Stan signs Strome to anything north of an entry level deal and longer than a year the torches will be ablaze and pitchforks distributed anew.

You can pretty much argue that the next decade will be similar to the same ten years from 97-to 2007- you’ll have a few players that can do there thing like Kaner- a la Tony Amonte and not much else... I have no faith in Blowman as a GM let alone President of hockey operations... this franchise will now be driven into the ground..
Same old story Rocky turning into his old man Dollar Bill... the Blackhawks and the Bears are the same— the franchises need to be sold and actually get competent people in the front office - bigfly46
It could turn out that way but based on what's already on the team I don't really see it being similar. Hell, the current Red Wing team looks like a contender compared to the Hawk teams of that era.
Kane, Toews and Keith are all still playing at an elite, in Kane's case, or high level at least, where the other two are concerned. No team of that era featured a player like any of those three even at their current levels.
Until Toews was drafted the team didn't really have have a center or fwd to build around and I think Dach represents that building block for the next Core. DeBrincat and Kubalik are better than most of the chaff that filtered in an out of a Hawk uniform in that era.
It also looks like some of the young dmen they've drafted or acquired could begin paying dividends...time will tell.
Like you I still wouldn't mind another hockey voice in the room and someone from outside the organization that could offer some fresh perspective but I really don't see the resemblance to that era. |

I think an 8 year deal with an AAV of $750,000 is the only realistic and acceptable contract for Strome. Anything else and Stan should be fired. |

Are you sure? There's plenty of GM morons out there whose fresh set of eyes are in need of goggles. The grass ain't always greener. |

Maybe they are going the route of the Bulls, draft talent have a coach that they think isn't very good to coach them, amass talent and when the time is right, fire JC and bring in a really good coach. But in the Bulls case they finally got rid of the GarPax enigma. |

I also would like to see how things go without McD here. He might of been the fly in the ointment. I wonder if he was whispering in Hendrys ear when Cubs would trade such great young talent for crap for an imaginary playoff run?
Maybe this was the biggest battle in the FO? McD being concerned about marketing and making money pushing and pushing to band aid this franchise along and Bowman saying which is it making money or one goal? |

Ridiculous.
I wish the fans would retaliate with a one game no show. Hit owmers where they notice.
What do you think would be the result if the players association and players themelves were asked if they mind being a skating billboard? I suggest that
most would not like it, although there might be many whom answer diplomaticly. |

I agree that it doesn't hurt to have a fresh set of eyes, but I agree the grass isn't always greener also. I agree with the part about McD trying to keep the band together not being a good thing as well.
And it may seem to some or most people that it's the same old same old. I don't know the chick they hired but there's your new set of eyes. And Danny Wirtz isn't just a business only type like his elders of the previous three generations. He played the game competitively. And what I like most about that is that he played the net. A goalie from the end of the rink has a better view in my opinion. The game is most always in front of him and he can see plays setting up much better than anyone on the either side. I think DW has the potential and is more capable of understanding both sides, hockey and business, of any issue that should arise.
As far a SB is concerned, maybe getting out from under McD is going to give him the jump he needs to be more successful. I have to think he, as well as a lot of others down there, feels like a new man. Time will tell, but I think it's going to be worth a look. |

Hawk, they are losing their ass right now. Until they can have a full crowd for games I can tolerate it. After that I am on your side. |

Sweet jeebus. What is wrong with putting an ad on a helmet? If it makes the league money, helps to keep operations running and ultimately increases the salary cap, it is a win for everyone.
The NHL has the least lucrative TV deal of the four major team sports. Pretty much every other pro hockey league in the world has ads plastered all over the boards, uniforms and ice. What is the downside? |

I'm more or less on the same page with you. On most things I'm a dyed in the wool traditionalist but I have to say that ads on uniforms isn't one of the things I get too worked up about given the current economic situation.

Henrik Lundqvist to sit out the entire season due to a heart condition. Capitals need a new goalie. |

I guess no one wants to write or talk about the fact that STAN BOWMAN WAS JUST HIRED AS TEAM PRESIDENT! Way to go Hawks! The guy who sucks at trades and has no idea wtf he is doing was promoted.

Your point about goalies having a full perspective of the game is something I agree with. In MLB, there seems to be a large proportion of managers who are former catchers who have a similar perch as goalies.
Bench players, too, tend to make good managers as they see a lot of the game from a different lens than everyday players. Terry Francona comes to mind.
The same could be said about role players in hockey. |

I'll have some thoughts about the Bowman promotion in tomorrow's blog, just want to give more thought than write something impulsively.
Heads up that the entire blog won't focus on this news. Half will cover another topic but the other half will share my thoughts on this. |

The Hawks just took a giant dump on the fan base. Danny certainly has got the 'dollar bill' thing down. He's certainly saving money. What a clown show. The good news is no one will stand in his way when he wants to make more great moves to help his club reach rock bottom.
Rumor is Stan's first move will be to sign Mitch Trubisky to a long term contract with a full NMC. He'll be taking Strome's place as the hawks new up and coming center. It'll be tough for Mitch to score goals since he can't read a defense... |

I'll take a stab:
I don't think it's that big of a deal, and to be honest, it was expected. He was staying on as GM regardless. They have all bought into the new direction and are committed to a higher degree of transparency. Considering most, if not all the teams took a hit financially, this move makes tons of sense in that they fill the position without adding another body to the payroll. Additionally, there have already been a number of previous FO moves to allow for more (and younger/new) voices in the organization to be more prominent.
Norm Maciver from asst. GM to VP of player personnel
- Kyle Davidson from asst. of the GM to AGM of hockey admin.
- Mark Eaton from dir. of player development to AGM of player dev.
- Ryan Stewart from VP of pro scouting to AGM of pro scouting
- Mike Doneghey from head USA scout to dir. of player evaluation and recruitment
- Pierre Gauthier from dir. of player personnel to senior advisor of player personnel.
- Barry Smith from dir. of player evaluation to senior advisor of player personnel.
- Ron Anderson from dir. of player recruitment to senior advisor of player recruitment.
- Rob Facca from amateur scout to head USA scout.
I just fought my way through most of the Athletic article on the topic (which I am not renewing). Those meat heads spend a good portion of the article gnashing their teeth about him not being accountable to anyone. BS. He's accountable to the team and if they continue to take a dump he'll be let go. Their biggest gripe seems to be that the Hawks didn't reveal much with the press release and that they have to wait until Thursday and Friday to hear from Wirtz/Faulkner, and Bowman respectively.
I think it is an expected move (made by Danny Wirtz) considering the uncertain financial situation. |

As they say in baseball, "can never have too many shortstops." Same goes for Centers in hockey! - rpeters01
Stan may like the "Short" in that statement though.
