For the past few years I’ve been saying you can win in this league with competent (average) QB play, a strong running game, and a strong defence.

I’m glad that endless hours of conversing and ink have gotten us right back to the beginning.

Big Ben has not been elite all year. He had a few games where he had elite performances sure but for the most part he’s been average.

The past few weeks he has been below average. However, the Steelers would have won those games, or at least have been in a better position to win those games, with the production they got from Snell in the run game in the 2nd half of tonight’s game. When you can keep a defence honest and on their heels with a balanced attack they aren’t just charging up the field against the short passing game. It also forces defences to honour the running game and opens up the play action deep shots that is sorely lacking from their offence at the moment

If they became a different team than they were while going 11-0?

I dont follow football much aside from the bills, but from my understanding the steelers couldnt run the ball all season, the offense is built around big ben throwing 40 times and they went 11-0 while doing so?

Now that they have lost its because they couldnt do something they cant, and havent tried to do all season?

The Steelers were very efficient on the ground up until week 8.

Then it’s been pretty much non-existent.

The Steelers can’t push the ball downfield in the passing game right now and teams are just waiting for the under routes. They have become too predictable.

Getting the running game going again would definitely help their offence.

They looked much more efficient in the 2nd half of last nights game once Snell got going.

Being good and efficient arent always synonymous

I didnt watch, so I have little comment on it. It goes both ways though, if big ben isnt trash they could or should or whatever.

I dont give a poop about the steelers but dying on this running and defence thing in 2020 NFL is weird. The bills had good to great running games and defenses, sometimes at the same time for 20 years and didnt make the playoffs.

Josh Allen, little to no running game, defense was mediocre to start but getting better and the bills win the division with 2 games left on the schedule. Good luck

Now if the Steelers find a way somehow to win the SB the narrative will change back to the “he’s a hall of fame QB” and was elite from 2007-2018 and that’s why the Steelers won despite him being average at best in the 2020 season. (As well as the 2005 season)

And we’ll get to run around that hamster wheel again how 77% of QB’s to win a SB are in the hall of fame despite myself providing several instances of those said QB’s winning Super Bowls in average statistical seasons on the backs of strong defences and great running games.

Eric Staal was an elite Center in this league from 2005-2018 for the most part and could very well make the HOF so if he averages 0.5 points per game this year and the Sabres happen to make the playoffs because we get a semblance of secondary scoring I guess we owe it to the fact that we have a future HOF’er on the 2nd line who had an average 2C season

- Pegullaville

Why do you keep bringing this up? It’s not a remotely good comparison to an aging HOF QB. Staal isn’t our QB. Eichel technically would be in this comparison

I’m not sure how you can argue what I stated -

Roethlisberger was good (not great, I agree) when the Steelers went 11-0

He’s been absolutely terrible in the past 3 games that resulted in the last three games and they are 0-3

That’s it. That’s all I said. It’s not really a debatable point.

They’ve proven they can win 11 straight games without a run game. They haven’t proven they can win a single game without a passing attack

Yup. So in a perfect world ..... we beat the patriots and get the 2nd seed.

Then rest all the starters vs the fins

- Sabretooth9

Yep, and then play them wild card weekend. Pretty sure that gives us 2 home games for the playoffs.

Yes get rid of the Canadians!

Iv seen enough of Risto to know what he is. A #4 on good teams. No more fooling me with he just needs a coach to use him right.

Would like to see montour on his natural side. Would like to see what colin can do too. Trade for him and not play him? Prob does not like soccer.

McCabe can get the hell out of her. Dont care what stats show. Eye test says hes a #5-6 and we have plenty of youngins that can do that. Uggg he plays LD.

Thinking is keep 4 D from last year and change out 2. Cant have everyone from last year back🤢

If they were a different team only in their losses, the outcome of those games could have been different

Yeah it’s silly

When they can pass - they usually win

When they can’t - they have lost

Sure, and maybe the Bills’ short passing game can effectively bring to the offence what a rushing game would provide.

Josh Allen is also running a lot himself so it takes away from the touches Singletary/Moss get. Especially in the red zone.

Teams are sitting on the short passing game now in the Steelers offence. They have to diversify in order to make up for Ben’s lack of mobility and inability to push the ball down field.

To your first point, that is exactly what the steelers have done all season isnt it?

Bolded I agree with, and its a dynamic the steelers obviously dont have. It will be interesting to see how big a factor that becomes in the playoffs for us. It was exciting to see some more of it last week but lets keep saving it for when it counts. He is a killer in the open field

I don’t remember the Steelers stopping their short passing game either the last few weeks. Big Ben attempted 38 passes last night.

They scored 17 points though in the 2nd half when they were able to get something going on the ground.

You like to change reality to fit your points

Here’s how they scored - TD 4 plays 67 yard drive

- 37 yard pass to Claypool - 23 yard pass to Johnson for TD

**7 yards rushing**

Then had a pass interference penalty set up there other TD

They doubled the passing yardage to rushing yardage in the second half

Stop making things up

So a screen pass that travelled 0 yards through the air and Claypool running 37 yards goes down in the stat sheet as a pass by default.

And that 7 yard run on first down on 2nd and 10 was more efficiency they had on ground almost the entire first half.

Snell then ran for 47 yards the next drive to get them their field goal.

Go ask Big Ben if the run game in the 2nd half didn’t take stress off of the passing game and opened up the offence.

Its a pass. Roethlisberger threw it.

They went 4 plays 67 yards with over 90% of it in the air to get them back in the game the start the second half.

The other TD drive had passes of 21 yards, 15 yards, and an 11 yard pass interference to put them on the 1.

They got back in the game throwing. Full stop

Yea and the Bengals won the game with 85 yards passing.

Should they have thrown more ?

I look forward to a team winning a Super Bowl this year with absolutely no balance on offence. Can’t wait to see it.
