Here's a fun exercise - Former Botterill players and their current salaries versus what the cap guru paid them

Vesey - $900k ($2.2)
Frolik - $750k ($4.3m)
Simmonds- $1.5m ($5m)
Sobotka- Czech B-League Salary Unavailable ($3.5m)
Larsson - $1.4m ($1.5m)
Sheary - $735k ($3m)
Rodrigues - $2m ($700k)
Kahun - $975k ($925k)

Total: $19m ($6.8m) = -$12.2m difference

Bogo not included

Thanks for the memories

Edit: forgot Scandella $3.275 ($4m)

Lots of fake news in this post

Vesey frolik simmonds Sobotka etc. all those players were given those bad contracts by different teams.

Sure botts traded for them. But he didn’t hand out those contracts they signed

Is there a meaningful difference? They were his players. Murray didn't sign Bogo to that awful contract but I'd still blame him for it

spread the scoring

rumor has it tage is ripped and been working out since early september

if they don't flip skinner to rw, I think tage gets the first shot

- homiedclown

I suppose it could happen,
but I’ll believe Jack & Sam get broken up when i see it

Tage would REALLY have to look great though
And he’s not even a lock to make the roster
I hope he’s as good as u think he is

He signed like one of those

Sobotka is here to offset the ROR money, you can thank Terry And Kim Pegula for that

Simmonds was on the last month of a long term deal. We didn’t come close to paying him 5 mil, so that’s factually inaccurate

Kahun is and was an absolute steal and the assistant to the regional Harbor Center manager just let him walk like a genius

This is an odd post

Love to see the Bill's come out with the old Red Helmets with the Stripe on top for the playoffs.

There’s a giant difference

For one, Wayne Simmonds earned almost nothing as a Sabre

And Bogo had 5 years left on his deal when Murray traded for him

Vesey, Frolik, Simmonds, Kahun were paid by the Sabres for less than a full season

Not even remotely comparable come on

Sheary and Frolik signing today gave me the idea.

It shows his complete inability to assess NHL forwards and why he doesn't have a job. The sum total of those players was $23m, or over 1/4 of the cap. It's also meant to show how badly he allocated cap space (cap space doesn't matter, i know)

“You can still thank Terry & Kim for that” certainly doesn’t sound like you’re happy or supportive

Btw,
Have we FINALLY “easily replaced ROR” or are u still hating on Staal?

You’re trying way too hard
None of those guys were brought in as long term solutions
They were placeholders to try & make us more competitive while we waited for all the young talent to be ready to contribute

Also,
The Cap staying still & Covid economics are why so many Vets are gonna be signing short term deals for low $$$
Has nothing to do specifically with Sabres players
It’s the whole league for the most part

He was a bad GM. The new one I’m afraid is worse. Coupled with meddling owners

Saw a tweet today and someone here mentioned it previously that the Sabres passing on Rossi was a handshake agreement that happened during the Staal trade.

I sincerely hope that’s not true, because it would be an all time dumb trade to give up a much better 18 year old prospect for one year of an aging player

Here's what the place holders cost to acquire

Vesey - $900k ($2.2) 3rd round pick
Frolik - $750k ($4.3m) 4th round pick
Simmonds- $1.5m ($5m) 5th round pick
Sobotka- Czech B-League Salary Unavailable ($3.5m) ROR
Larsson - $1.4m ($1.5m) N/A
Sheary - $735k ($3m) 3rd
Rodrigues - $2m ($700k) N/A
Kahun - $975k ($925k) Sheary/Erod
Scandella $3.275 ($4m) 3rd round pick

Those guys cost ROR, three thirds, a 4th and a 5th plus $23m in cap space

Other GMs this year got them for free and $9m

Comparing what guys cost previously to what their cost is in Covid times is completely ignoring the economics of today

Would have been nice to play Boston earlier in the year sans Pasternak and Bergeron.
