They won't play another team out of their division until the conference finals. Teams could play up to 16 times against each other this year.
- manvanfan

That will be boring, but it's hockey so better than nothing

Freidman is saying Kucherov is going on LTIR to clear cap space
- VANTEL

Just reading about it now

Nikita Kucherov Tampa Bay Lighting

According to reports on Monday, the Tampa Bay Lightning may have just solved their salary cap issues. Only, it’s not in the way the team would have liked and it’s certainly not a win for the organization.

As per a report by Elliotte Friedman, the Lightning’s cap issues may be solved by LTIR. Word out of Tampa on Monday is that superstar Nikita Kucherov is battling a hip injury that may keep him out awhile. Details are sketchy and there’s no real word or clarity being provided by his agent but additional news should drop this week. What does seem to be confirmed is that if Kucherov is unable to play, it will clear room for the Lightning to get the other RFA’s signed since his $9.5 million will come off the books.

Someone wrote on Friedman’s timeline, “how convenient” after reading the report of the news and Friedman responded, “Yeah, I gotta tell ya….I bet TB would rather have the player. Sources say Kucherov is kinda good.”

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun is covering the story as well and writes:

Told that Kucherov got a hip shot last week. Now apparently it’s about seeing how he reacts to it and feels. If he’s fine, then it’s all good. But if he feels discomfort? Could be LTIR. We shall see.

I thought they only needed to clear waivers going down. I thought they no longer neede to clear waiver if they were being sent to the NHL

I am going to get bored watching a team 10 times a year.
- VANTEL

It's going to take the leafs back to their glory days of the original 6.
Whoever wins the north will be the equivalent of when the leafs won the cup last!

Not quite true though, they'll be competing against 6 other teams, not 5.

Types of Waivers

Before getting into the nitty gritty, let’s define the different three types of waivers: Regular, Re-entry, and Unconditional.

Regular Waivers
Regular waivers are the waivers an NHL team exercises when they want to send a player to the minor leagues. When a player is reassigned from the NHL to the AHL, he must pass through waivers (unless exempt). Waivers allow any of the other teams to claim the rights of the player.

Unconditional Waivers
When a team wants to terminate a player’s contract, they place the player on unconditional waivers. This is usually done to buyout a player’s contract. It’s similar to Regular Waivers, but no team has ever placed a claim on this type of waived player. It can only happen in June during a two-week window.

Re-Entry Waivers
Re-entry waivers, as explained above, were a product of the CBA prior to 2012. They are no longer in effect in the current 2013 CBA. They were written to prevent teams from stashing ringers in the AHL.

9 times is a bit much lol but the baseball format of 3-4 games per could work.
- LordHumungous

I don't really know but can't see it happening honestly. IF they have to play 9 times vs each, 3- 3 game sets sounds most likely.

For fans out West it's a good chance to see the teams in the Eastern Canada that they wouldn't see as much.

Dude, I did that a month ago for 3 days. They even think the Leafs media is hard on the team. Just like a normal ontario'n

If 100 percent is 10 out of 10, doesn't that make 200 percent 20 out of ten.

Sounds mathematically impossible to me which would make it impossible.

Argh.... I have to much time, trying to avoid triggering people with true stats about covid numbers.... damned if I do, damned if I don't.

I will watch a lot of hockey but looking forward to the next year already. I am sure I will enjoy it once it gets going.

I have some doubts about the Leafs . Habs and Sens always play them tough . Playing them an extra 5 games will be interesting. I still think they gave up some speed this year with their trades

NHL taxi squad rules from EK's main blog...

"NHL Taxi Squads...Each team will be allowed to carry 6 players on their taxi squad..1 must be a goalie..and these players are going to be paid AHL salaries, not counting against the cap.. If a player needs to pass through waivers to be sent to the NHL, that still applies, however players that have two way contracts and DON’T have to pass through waivers can be moved freely back and forth."

- Pacificgem

Players never need to pass through waivers to be sent TO the NHL, so...???

Also, why the hell are they calling it a taxi squad? Like anyone takes a taxi anymore (except us Islanders who don’t have Uber)

They are calling it a taxi squad because the players on it are hacks?
