It was Benning taking advantage of Vegas’s cap, much like Mike Gillis taking advantage of SJ’s cap issues when he acquired Ehrhoff. Gillis was horrible at trades, but everyone gets lucky now and again.

Paul Holmgren acquired Voracek and Sean Couturier for Jeff Carter, he wasn’t great at trading either, but as I said, every poor GM gets a few things right at some point.

I'm all for waiting but I mean Liiga is not a hard league. An offensive defensemen that can't produce in a mediocre league. 19 year old or not. The players that are cracking the NHL from playing in Liiga are half a point per game players as 19 year olds not zero point players.

The lowest scoring defenders coming out of Liiga had at least 10 plus points on the season and they are struggling to get NHL games after 4 or 5 seasons after being drafted.
