They had bad goaltending last year but were still the best CDN club in the league at 71 games. Guess we'll see....
- LordHumungous

Kinda splitting hairs, they had 37 wins, same as the Jets. The Flames Canucks and Leafs all had 36 wins....it's such a tight division as they're all mediocre teams. But the Canucks have the brightest future with the youngest core

Not much news out there this morning, Ontario and BC still mulling over whether or not to allow NHL teams to travel within the country. Everyone else can freely travel, can't they? Why not the NHL?
- Pacificgem

They're not supposed to. Essential travel only.
I hope BC & Ont. don't cave in to the NHL and give special exemption.

Don't you think the new Covid-19 strain may play into this? I'm pretty sure we don't know everything that's going on out there right now. Hockey is not top priority.

Marky tries extra hard to save a petey one-timer and pulls his groin.
- manvanfan

When Markstrom's groin issues surface and Tanev's injuries pop up Can't wait to get Redmile's thoughts...

Maybe Leivo could comment from the Flames press box

I used to like him several years back, just to laugh at his wacky outlook, now it has gone stale.
- Reubenkincade

He has taken his small skilled bias just too far.

Guy was especially bad this year that 20 out of their top 100 didn't even get drafted. Obviously, in 8 years he might actually do better then professional scouts but chances of that happening are extremely unlikely.

Feels like he's just trying to find that gem that he can put his claim to fame too. Someone should tell him he's not Pronman.

Charter planes and strict protocol should ease their concerns I would guess. Hopefully we find out sooner than later so I can find out where the Canucks will be playing in the USA.

All the hate in here for Canucks who went elsewhere

What a bunch of Hypocrites

- VanHockeyGuy

Markstrom and Tanev both left for an extra $500,000 to a team going in the opposite direction...and we are supposed to cheer for them??

Fact is that's where they were. All CDN teams have issues to address but it will be interesting to see who comes on top.

I don't blame either for taking the money, careers are short, they're both quality individuals, I wish them well. However, they play on the Flames now, they can get (frank)ed

Maybe they want to review the league safety protocol and possibly ask some questions about certain parts of said protocol.
You would think that would be the responsible thing to do.

Man this kid took a lot of poop when he played for both the Avs and the Sabres, now look at him, Stanley Cup Champion, Conn Smyth winner as playoff MVP and now Captain....he's come a long ways.

----------------------------------------------------

"Ryan O'Reilly will be named captain of the St. Louis Blues after Alex Pietrangelo departed in free agency, according to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic. O'Reilly is entering his third season with the Blues, having been traded to St. Louis by the Buffalo Sabres in 2018."

- Pacificgem

Oh neat, Thanks. David Rundblad can be my Viktor Persson comparison.

Or Carl Dahlstrom.

Bit dissapointed Leivo left. He was a decent 3rd liner who controlled the puck well.

They could have won cups and been paid an extra 1M for the same amount of term next season

I remember talking to Vintsy before free agency and said Canucks will offer Marky 4.5 for two years. He said he is the teams MVP and will want 6. I said he may want 6 but he won't get that here and we would then probably sign a guy like Holtby or someone else for 2 years at 4.5

I don't blame Markstrom for taking the money. He deserves it and it will bite the flames in the ass eventually

Toffoli played 10 games for the canucks they were not prepared to give him 4 years with young players coming on the team. It is not a big deal.

Oh I'm sure it was a factor. Just looks chicken-sh!t for the team to invest all that time and effort into Markstrom's development and keeping injury-riddled Tanev here when he should have been traded 5 times over and they piss off for an extra 500K? Good riddance I hope Hughes and Petey light up Marky so much his fuc*cking groin pulls itself lol

Maybe we should have wished Kesler and Lou well when they left too...lol

Toffoli was a great fit, a leader, a point a game guy, who wanted to play here. He's going to have a good season, book it.

It's a game of chance, sort of, for Benning. Taking the chance that kids can fill the shoes of veterans that he lets walk and still remain competitive. He did an excellent job taking advantage of the cap issues in Vegas by acquiring Schmidt, who's an upgrade on Tanev.

The biggest question, for a team that allows WAY too many shots against, is can Demko and Hotlby, who hasn't been very good for two years, carry the Canucks like Markstrom had to.

He was decent but won't affect the team by losing him. We won big games with Leivo and Toffoli out of the lineup which I'm sure MNGT saw as a factor whether we should keep them here or not. Losing Tanev and Stecher only helped us as well considering what we replaced them with. Only anomaly is can the Holtby/Demko combo be as consistent as Marky was and I think they can.
