Tim Horton's and other advertisers call help get the players more of the contracts they signed. I assume the "socially related things" wouldn't. Which is fine, if the players agree to sacrifice a portion of their checks. - mohel
Draftkings, they can change the proposition bets each period.

I mentioned previously and I want to bring up this topic because it is relevant. I feel like several people on hockeybuzz would have a a good analysis. Due to the high volume of questions I anticipate on Theo's mailbag, I ask here:
How much better might Boqvist be assuming he worked diligently nearly four months in weight training before returning to action.
The answer has a lot to do with his confidence level. Can he better absorb and or dish out checks. Overall it is his attitude about playing the game when there is no escaping the times when a particular physical checking brand is being played.
I suggested two off season of weight training ought to make a difference. I suggest using other players who faced this hurdle is not always appropriate as a comparison nor as an expectation to arrive at. Different bodies, different training, different attitude or relentless pursuit? But we have a current star RW whom was sort of bullied as a rag doll his first few years in the league. He became stronger
So what can we expect from Boqvist. Of course just gaining experience is a key in Boqvist's development. I hope he improves here in the NHL but perhaps he turns up in Rockford and work on the things which Beaudin and Kyrs did last season. Eventually though Boqvist has to adapt to the rough checking. - jhawk59
While Kane is in impeccable shape, his durability comes from the fact that he has learned to stay away from most big hits. The last big one I remember him taking was when Dumba hit him near center ice (I believe Panarin got in his kitchen after the hit).
I think Boqvist would do well to learn that skill (although it is admittedly tougher to do for D-men. I think his biggest growth - in his play - will come when he is playing more instinctively and not trying to read everything. That will speed up his decisions and keep him away from more of the bigger hits. Yes, he will benefit from bulking up a little, but I don't think that will be the main driver for his progression.

Maybe they can use the same technology they use to put ads on the glass behind the goalies - and change them every period or so.
Or have each player where a different ad on his helmut. - StLBravesFan
Excellent idea! You're better up to date on the high tech gizmos than me. |

I think Boqvist has the commitment to get better in all facets of his game and his confidence could get a boost with a D partner like Zadorov patroling the ice during their shifts.
Physical development through weight training is a must for any pro athlete and can do wonders to elevate them to another level of competitiveness. Beaudin actually has packed on some weight and muscle since turning pro so I expect Boqvist to be no different. |

It’s funny: when I see film on games before they put ads on the boards - the rink looks strangely bare and entirely too white (not a comment on the lack of diversity of the players).
I actually prefer the ads on the boards - ads some color, breaks up the “snow white-out” landscape.
Don’t think I’ll feel the same about ads on the uniforms.... |

I've seen this a lot. What is the issue with ads on a helmet or uniform? |

To me, the boards don't move, so you can see the ad at all times. When it is on a player, they move, so you will not see it as clearly. Plus it will be like the goalie masks, sometimes it is hard to see the design during the actual play. Close ups are a different story. Let's face it, sometimes there are too many commercials (for football and baseball especially) |

I agree about the boards. The old games seem dull with the white boards. I suspect I'll get used to whatever they do. And I'm good with it, especially if it is Hockey Related Revenue and the players get half. |

#3. With Klefborn out for the year, who are we trading to the Oilers? |

Nylander has no upside. The sooner they walk away from him, the better off they’ll be. |

I agree. In all honesty, I will probably not even notice them. If it helps to increase the salary cap, I'm all for it. |

They look stupid?
I’ll never buy another piece of team branded anything if they go down that road, and I may never watch another game.
Raising the salary cap won’t make teams any better either, it will just let the superstars make more money. |

While I generally don't have an issue with ads on helmets if it helps to raise revenue to help the league and teams with their financial deficits, I agree with you that conceptually it doesn't make sense.
Advertising is about building impressions. You see the ice sheet a heckuva a lot more than a decal on a helmet because of the constant motion. So wouldn't it be more bang for the buck to put ads on the ice instead?
I'm an avid fan of goalie masks and love it when the camera has close ups of goalies' domes but they rarely happen and the zoom ins are too short when they do happen (i.e. not enough time to make out the details).
Another angle is wouldn't CCM or Bauer or whoever the helmet company is have an issue with another company's logo on their product? |

Thanks, Angotti.
I was thinking about that as well, i.e. would the Oilers be a trade partner now that Klefbom is out for the season. Maybe ship them de Haan for a draft pick or two? Or Seeler for a late rounder?
Actually, saw a rumor today that the Oilers are interested in Koekkoek and/or Hutton. Bowman needs to sign Koekkoek fast then make the trade to gain a draft pick. |

The way they are making progress with digital screens wouldn’t surprise me to see them integrated with helmets |

Basketball players who aren't very good are making $30m a year. No such thing as a too highly paid hockey player. But I agree, that's what would happen. |
