Providing exemptions to highly paid athletes is not good optics. Hotels are open and running at about 10% occupancy, most likely for essential workers. Most provinces have fallen short of an out right travel ban but in case you have had you head stuck in the cookie jar for the past 10 months, travel is restricted to essential only.
- Marwood

Over the past year i've been working week by week in 4 different provinces in the country who I can tell you we take up much more than 10% of the hotel.

There have also been more than just essential workers in those hotels with us.

I really don't get why VHG has been complaining about Albertan's coming into BC then?

NHL isn't asking players to be free to roam and that the rules don't apply to them. The NHL has the resources to have the players isolate much better than just about any of the essential workers that are allowed to roam freely.

My bad, you didn't say what it was about and I didn't see it.

NFL has been going about their business and players have tested positive. They sit out.

Soccer they travel and play every 3 days.

The NHL is asking the provinces for exemptions. In my opinion I hope the provinces don't. I know lots of people are breaking the rules on a daily basis, which is why this continues to drag on for many more months to come.
Albertans should not be coming to BC and BC'ers should not be going to Alberta. Go have a donut.

You've only ever worried about your best interests, they don't align with many others. I'm not worried about what you think on this.

And the Provinces obviously and rightfully so have concerns or this would have been sorted. I applaud the Provinces for sticking together, and you also need to realize it's not only about the NHL. They're trying to incorporate similar requirements for all hockey leagues, so you can see it this isn't done right things can go sideways real fast.

So you're fine with allowing hockey to be given special allowances?

No other organizations are permitted to gather but for your entertainment (best interests) hockey should be granted special treatment.

This is an extremely religious time of the year, but all places of worship are shutdown, but hockey should trump all and be allowed special privileges for your best interests.

Personally there is just so much wrong with this thought process.

He’s complaining because, in his experience, Albertans come not caring if they get sick or if they get other people sick.

That’s not my experience, and I vacationed in the Okanagan in October, but we were very respectful of others as they were to us.

Problem is the province is doing things half fast. I seen a photo yesterrday of Cypress Bowl and thousands of skiers on the hill. There were lineup of people standing 1 foot apart touching the same chair lifts , eating in the same restaurants.

Malls are open . Restaurants are open fir dine in.it is pretty much half fast restrictions.

So 25 hockey players isolate together on a regular basis compared to church.

So say 150 people in church families or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5.

So you have 50 different families that then go off to work, go to beer league hockey, go to the shopping malls.

Do you see the difference of interaction between a hockey game with no fans and going to a public place and then dispersing into different lives.

That would be the difference here, you are so blind to think that this is my best interest. I don't advocate for my own interests unlike some here. I take a reasonable approach whether something could be done safely or not.

The difference between you and me is that I have the ability to admit when I've done something wrong. The last thing I'm going to worry about is getting judged by some random internet millennial. You just carry on with you're self entitled beliefs princess.

I think some of the differences include (but not limited to):

The NHL will eat up a lot of resources, PPE, testing kits, health professionals etc. these are resources that could be allocated differently within the provinces.

Professional (and recreational) sports have a much higher degree of personal contact than shopping at the mall. If you are bumping into people at the mall you’re doing it wrong. Retail stores, restaurants, grocery stores, physiotherapists, dentists all have guidelines and restrictions in place to a)limit the number of people in their spaces, and reduce the potential level of contact among them.

There will always be some risk going outside your door, its’d about managing that risk for the greatest potential gain.

Personally I think worship is BS, but if a church has a safety plan, and they can have people in their buildings safely, I think they should be allowed to operate. Cap the numbers, space out the pews, offer multiple services to allow everyone an opportunity to attend.

I’m just explaining (because you seem unable to comprehend his point of view).

Do I think NHL players don’t care? No, that’s not what I think. I do think that allowing a travelling band of sports heroes to tromp across the country while everyone else is expected to stay within their region is wrong. But you know what, because of the strict guidelines in BC the case #’s are falling, our R value is below 1 for the first time in a while, and by the second week of January the province might allow movement with a comprehensive safety plan in place. I thought Jan 13th was an aggressive date and expected a delay until the beginning of Feb.

I don't know if you have been to a mall in a while, I went once back in early Nov and I was astonished at the amount of people who were clearly just randomly there and couldn't follow any rule.

You are contacting the same people. If one player get covid, you can isolate them and staff for until everyone is healthy. You pretty much know who that person has come in contact with.

A person at the mall gives it to someone else, you've now got to go find every person that person has come in contact with.

Finding people instead of knowing exactly who they are. That's a big difference.
