I’m just explaining (because you seem unable to comprehend his point of view).
Do I think NHL players don’t care? No, that’s not what I think. I do think that allowing a travelling band of sports heroes to tromp across the country while everyone else is expected to stay within their region is wrong. But you know what, because of the strict guidelines in BC the case #’s are falling, our R value is below 1 for the first time in a while, and by the second week of January the province might allow movement with a comprehensive safety plan in place. I thought Jan 13th was an aggressive date and expected a delay until the beginning of Feb. - 1970vintage
I certainly get their point of view. It doesn't mean I think that they are right.
I guess maybe if you look at it as "oh these guys get to do it, so should I" My 10 year old thinks that way.
So 25 hockey players isolate together on a regular basis compared to church.
So say 150 people in church families or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5.
So you have 50 different families that then go off to work, go to beer league hockey, go to the shopping malls.
Do you see the difference of interaction between a hockey game with no fans and going to a public place and then dispersing into different lives.
That would be the difference here, you are so blind to think that this is my best interest. I don't advocate for my own interests unlike some here. I take a reasonable approach whether something could be done safely or not. - manvanfan
Well personally I think your reasonable approach is in your best interests, I think Marwoods approach are in his best interests, I think my approach is in my best interests.
I agree with Vantel above about half ass measures, if I can not go to Christmas mass tonight, why are ski mountains open, after the pleas from the management of the ski mountains I think there will be heavier restrictions.
To me allowing any type of special treatment should be fair across the board, hockey is allowed under strict guidelines so should every other organization. Every other organization has tried to work within the guidelines and parameters imposed earlier and transmission levels skyrocketed. So heavier restrictions were implemented and it should be fair across the board.
Hockey can be played in the US states where they have less restrictions, doesn't have to be in Canada.

Most of the transmission is happening in the home. For the most part business is going about it the right way. I believe the NHL could go about it the right way, but I think Jan 13th is just a tick too soon.

Stealing my thunder here.
If so many cases weren't linked together to church gatherings, I can't see why churches shouldn't be able to continue. 6 feet apart, wearing masks, not walking past each other but they weren't so something had to be done.
Not all situations are the same.
Also as I said before I went to the mall in Nov and I couldn't believe the amount of ignorance of people just there for fun and not following rules. You can't lump that in with hockey players that would be forced to follow a specific set of rules.
Has anyone heard what hotels will be chosen as the designated lodging for the players and what kind of health safety protocols might be in place for them?

Providing exemptions to highly paid athletes is not good optics. Hotels are open and running at about 10% occupancy, most likely for essential workers. Most provinces have fallen short of an out right travel ban but in case you have had you head stuck in the cookie jar for the past 10 months, travel is restricted to essential only. - Marwood
That's ridiculous, sorry but virtue signaling about the optics of nhl games happening is a little strong for cancel culture to be taken seriously.

Over the past year i've been working week by week in 4 different provinces in the country who I can tell you we take up much more than 10% of the hotel.
There have also been more than just essential workers in those hotels with us.
I really don't get why VHG has been complaining about Albertan's coming into BC then?
NHL isn't asking players to be free to roam and that the rules don't apply to them. The NHL has the resources to have the players isolate much better than just about any of the essential workers that are allowed to roam freely. - manvanfan

I don't know if you have been to a mall in a while, I went once back in early Nov and I was astonished at the amount of people who were clearly just randomly there and couldn't follow any rule.
You are contacting the same people. If one player get covid, you can isolate them and staff for until everyone is healthy. You pretty much know who that person has come in contact with.
A person at the mall gives it to someone else, you've now got to go find every person that person has come in contact with.
Finding people instead of knowing exactly who they are. That's a big difference. - manvanfan
You're gonna knock yourself out banging your head against a wall in this one.
This isn't going to negativity impact anyone here, but the desire for the Nancy state to keep us all safe and coddled is strong in those who are terrified of other people's shadows.....
