Hold your hosses on Hurts. How's your boy Travis doing nowadays? Hard to keep it up once there is some tape on you, huh? Hurts' 2nd half qb rating is 57.

I know you're an academic and a scholar and an expert on everything. What other factors could contribute to a low passer rating for a rookie QB with only a few games experience in the 2nd half of games?

Why would his 2nd half rating change so drastically from the first? Same guy calling plays. In the first half, lots of scripted plays and he did not shout kill kill like Wentz does too often.

Then, 2nd half is when defenses traditionally adjust to what offenses are doing. That's the half when qbs have to read plays more. And Hurts struggled there. Defenses baited him pretty successfully.

Don't get me wrong. He has earned an extended look. He is better than I thought. But he is not the Wentz of 17 or 19 yet. No magic panacea there.

I predict Howie stays, and Wentz starts. I believe it is likely Doug stays too and so does Schwartz.

Just don't win the last game. WFT has lots to play for. I would rest several of our starters (of course they won't)

EDIT: to be fair, 2nd half is also when Dougie completely abandons the run.

dougie abandons the run against a team that was the worst in the league at defending it...

The Eagles are a bad team. They're frequently behind in games in the 2nd half. That is when offense is predictable. Defenses no longer have to respect the run. They can play more dime defenses and the pass rush has their ears pinned back licking their chops. Add in a rookie QB who is inexperienced and that's why his QB rating is lower in the 2nd half.

You also don't understand what a scripted play is. Reading the defense and making the right reads is no different between halves. Pre-snap reads, reads on RPO's and passing plays is needed all game long.

Agreed on the la Colombe. I have a couple of pounds of beans at home and grind it fresh when I want it. I live in northern Chester and it's impossible to find good deli out here. Love a good Rueben when I can get it and happy to try Gamiel's next trip through Wilmington. Thanks for the tip.

Not my side of town, but I believe Gamiel's has closed. Just saving you a trip across the border. We do have zero sales tax on alcohol, so that would make a road trip worthwhile. Cheers!

except the ravens game (17-0) all the games they lost were close at half time or they where winning. No need to abandon the run at that time. That is just bad play calling and coaching.

good write up on Brink, seems he has made a lot of progress with his skating and lower body.

Wouldn't it be nice if Brink reaches his full potential. A Couple dark horses, Brink and O'Brien. They have some attributes that could really help. We shall see.

Brink scored the opener and the third goal in today’s blowout of Czech. He seems like a player the fans will like. A hard worker with a motor and skills. I read that article and was impressed by the work he did to improve. I think the odds are good he makes the NHL in a few years. Unfortunately I don’t have the same feeling about O’Brien but time will tell. He still hasn’t played a game this year and is looking at a maximum of about 15 games in what was supposed to be a show me year for him.

It's only one game but he played well tonight, even apart from scoring a goal. Was physical and effective on the forecheck on what was a disaster for BU after the opening period.

O'Brien's freshman year at Providence was a big disappointment: injury-filled (shoulder, concussion), unproductive and he was also unhappy there. He barely saw the ice in the WJC. But go back to the Summer Showcase before the season. He played almost as well as Farabee did.

Showed an appropriate level of dominance in BCHL last year, and basically got his mojo and confidence back. Got a taste of humility in his year at Providence -- everything had always come easily for him before that against lower-tier opposition.

Whether the pick pans out or not, we'll see. But I will tell you that Flyers took him because they felt he was a potential home run (he has really good hands and some sandpaper to his game), so they step up and took him. Sometimes that works out, sometimes it doesn't.
